None of them where Sony Consoles  , Everyone was saying the same thing when the PS2 came out, now its sold over 40 million.
[/b]

Fair enough, Sega and Atari did set the standard of how not to release a console, both companies had two major failures each. Sony's track record has been excellent with PS/PS2, I just think some of the same mistakes the previously mentioned companies made can be seen in present time.

But hte PS2 didn't cost 600 + tax
[/b]

That was something some of those other consoles shared, they could be bought for the same price their competitors combined cost was at the time of release.

That's because the only competition the PS2 had was the Dreamcast and Sega is natorious for not supporting their consoles. The PS2 was well established a year or two before Xbox came out and no one wanted to take a chance on Microsofts system due to the fact that it was Microsoft and they had no experience in the console market, but since they have proven themselves worthy oppenents and Nintendo has shown a second wind...Sony does not have the dominance it once had. Sorry, but the truth is truth.

I thought it was 299?

Look at your salaries in 1999/2000 when the PS2 came out, compared to 2006/2007 I'd hazard a guess your salaries may have gone up?

Fluffy, so massive R&D in building a console from scratch is not worth $600, you really do disappoint me.

This is not the Xbox 360, which uses generic hardware systems.

I do take into consideration that everyone here as a inherent hate for Sony, due to things related to the games they have played, and I can't expect everyone here to be early adopters, but I am sure many of you will eventually buy the PS3, maybe waiting out for the price cut.

1) I don't know what things are like in the UK, but in the US the average person's salary has not increased by 50% in the last seven years.

2) What Sony spent to create the console is not my problem. I just wouldn't spend that much money on a game console. If it was priced camparably with XBox, then we could talk.

3) Advanced blah, blah, hardware, blah. It could be made out of solid gold encrusted with diamonds for all I care. It's still a toy.

4) I have a Sony TV, a Sony DVD player and a Sony home theater sound system. I owned a PS, own a PS2. All of these products have served me well. I do not hate Sony. Hated Xbox, thought it was an ugly, clunky mess slapped together in a mad rush to enter the console market. None of this changes the fact that I think $600 is too much to spend on a game console. If price drops make it competitive, I would absolutely buy a PS3.

As already stated, my salary did not increase by 50% over 7 years. And I hazard to guess that the average US/UK cost of living has not increased by anywhere near 50% in seven years.

So, if a company spends less money to build a product that plays almost all the same games as another company does. The company who spent less money is wrong? The point is not whether the PS3's hardware is worth $600 (that never was the argument), the point is whether or not it is worth the consumer to spend $600 on a console. And for many, it is not.

Couple that with Sony's image has become "You will buy this console, and if you don't, you're cheap!". It doesn't exactly win over the consumer fan base.

I believe I have kept things away from an anti-Sony sentiment (I have long since gotten over what happened in SWG) and have displayed a non-biased argument for almost everything here. I do not appreciate the allegation. Please, let's keep this civil.

As for buying a PS3, Sony better drop the price by $200 (minimum) and not lose their FF exclusivity. Then I will think about it.

Wow I have no life it's friggen 4 in the morning and I am sitting here reading a stupid console war thread... lol
