For the record, I don't believe there is any canonical reference to Kirk and Spock ever meeting prior to Kirk's first Five Year mission aboard the Enterprise. In fact, Spock was at the Acedemy in the 2250s, while Kirk was there in the late 50s and early 60s. There is a possibility that Kirk and Spock might have crossed paths at the Academy very early in Kirk's career and very late in Spock's academic stay.

Some notable characters and scenarios to expect from the movie:
- Mallory Sr. - Lt. Mallory's dad, helped Kirk get into the Academy
- Finnegan - Kirk's rival at the Academy
- Ben Finney - Later served with Kirk on the Republic
- Gary Mitchell
- Androvar Drake (classmate and competitor to Kirk, also future crewmate on the USS Farragut)
- Kobayashi Maru
- Anything involving Kirk's service on the USS Republic
- Kirk's service as a lieutenant aboard the USS Farragut, including anything Faith Morgan, Captain Garrovick, and Tycho IV.
- Scotty, Chekov, Sulu, Bones, Uhura (if they DO include these, then they're REALLY pushing their luck)
- Klingons, Romulans, Borg, Ferengi, Q, and any other species that is not part of the Federation or allied with the Federation in this time period
- Holodecks. During this time period holodecks did not exist. No holographic simulations or any crap like that for training. It wasn't until later in Kirk's career, around the time of the Enterprise-B launch that holodecks were even a possible technology. And even then, you needed a full body virtual-reality suit to experience a holoprogram.
- Kirk's experience on Tarsus IV. If they do include this, they can do it in two possible ways. Either as a prologue to the movie, showing Kirk at 13 witnessing the Massacre by Governor Kodos during the food crisis, or a flashback, perhaps a dream sequence depicting the same scenario
- James Cromwell as Zefram Cochrane. There is a possibility that we might see this cameo in one of Kirk's classes or studies. A holographic projection of a famous Cochrane speech, or him explaining his warp theory is possible.
- Jonathan Archer, or any of the crew from Enterprise. Unless of course in some sort of holographic cameo, and IF they even think of doing that, it most likely be Archer as the President of the United Federation of Planets delivering some speech.
