Star Trek XI

For the record, I don't believe there is any canonical reference to Kirk and Spock ever meeting prior to Kirk's first Five Year mission aboard the Enterprise. In fact, Spock was at the Acedemy in the 2250s, while Kirk was there in the late 50s and early 60s. There is a possibility that Kirk and Spock might have crossed paths at the Academy very early in Kirk's career and very late in Spock's academic stay.

Some notable characters and scenarios to expect from the movie:
  • Mallory Sr. - Lt. Mallory's dad, helped Kirk get into the Academy
  • Finnegan - Kirk's rival at the Academy
  • Ben Finney - Later served with Kirk on the Republic
  • Gary Mitchell
  • Androvar Drake (classmate and competitor to Kirk, also future crewmate on the USS Farragut)
  • Kobayashi Maru
What not to expect:
  • Anything involving Kirk's service on the USS Republic
  • Kirk's service as a lieutenant aboard the USS Farragut, including anything Faith Morgan, Captain Garrovick, and Tycho IV.
  • Scotty, Chekov, Sulu, Bones, Uhura (if they DO include these, then they're REALLY pushing their luck)
  • Klingons, Romulans, Borg, Ferengi, Q, and any other species that is not part of the Federation or allied with the Federation in this time period
  • Holodecks. During this time period holodecks did not exist. No holographic simulations or any crap like that for training. It wasn't until later in Kirk's career, around the time of the Enterprise-B launch that holodecks were even a possible technology. And even then, you needed a full body virtual-reality suit to experience a holoprogram.
What is iffy on being included:
  • Kirk's experience on Tarsus IV. If they do include this, they can do it in two possible ways. Either as a prologue to the movie, showing Kirk at 13 witnessing the Massacre by Governor Kodos during the food crisis, or a flashback, perhaps a dream sequence depicting the same scenario
  • James Cromwell as Zefram Cochrane. There is a possibility that we might see this cameo in one of Kirk's classes or studies. A holographic projection of a famous Cochrane speech, or him explaining his warp theory is possible.
  • Jonathan Archer, or any of the crew from Enterprise. Unless of course in some sort of holographic cameo, and IF they even think of doing that, it most likely be Archer as the President of the United Federation of Planets delivering some speech.

sometimes I like to stand inside a POB while other people are flying it ans say "Make it so number one". Star Trek is what my dad used to watch... :P

Stav is letting his Trekkie side run free! :P

I don't know anything about all that so it's new to me. I expect I will download it if I don't get around to seeing it at the cinema anyway. :)
Still too far away like all the other cool films.

Been a fan since I was 5 or 6. Can't remember which, but that's how long I've been a Trekkie :D
[/b]

I don't even know you Stav and I like you already. :D

Seriously though... I'm optimistic about the new film, but with Rick Berman still at the helm of the Trek franchise... well... let's just say after the previous round of revisionist history called "Enterprise" I'm not going to hold my breath over it.

Live Long and Prospser,

Mack

Berman is not really at the helm any more. He still has his office at Paramount, but the new leadership at Paramount has made his job title iffy. Berman has also suggested that his career with Star Trek may have ended with the new movie being headed by JJ Abrams. As far as I've heard, no info has been released on how involved he is with XI.

I like the one where Kirk gets sent to the mines, that's my fave ^_^ [/b]
The Klingon penal colony on Rura Penthe from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country :D That movie is in my top 5 trek movies :P

The US release date for the eleventh Star Trek has been confirmed as Christmas Day 2008.

The announcement made by Paramount Pictures was accompanied by another confirming that JJ Abrams, the creator of Lost, will direct the film.

The film will focus on the early lives of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock and, although no one has as yet been cast, filming is scheduled to begin in the autumn.

Abrams said, "Needless to say I am honoured and excited to be part of this next chapter of Star Trek."

He went on to say that his artistic intention was to appeal to everyone by making "a picture for life-long fans and the uninitiated". [/b]

Now my local gutter mag had an interesting article but its at work. Plus I call BS on it.

Adrian Brody as Spock
Matt Damon as Kirk
Gary Sinese as Bones
Someone else as Scotty.

I'll post from work when I find it. They have no idea anyway, just post whatever rumor they can find! :D

All they need to do is put some really shitty "trendy" theme song and I'm bombing Paramount

Lol, Sinise as Bones... I can actually kinda see that. Not anywhere near the Academy at the time Kirk was there, but still.
