im not sure obviously but i doubt they are out of ideas
i think the problem is that the guys on this forum who are dissatisfied with the current state of MMOs are in the minority generally and as long as the majority of people (????) are happy grinding away in games like WoW then we arent going to see much change in that
unless perhaps a new and ridiculously revolutionary MMO comes out but im not sure thats going to happen any time soon [/b]
It's not that a majority are happy. It's that there really aren't any good alternatives. Lets look at the options and these are just off the top of my head....
UO - out of date/went soft/not many play it
EQ - out of date
DAoC - out of date/not many play it
Shadowbane - Abysmal
Anarchy Online - out of date/not many play it
Saga of Ryzom - not many play it
EQ2 - haven't played long enough to make an assesment
WoW - new flavor/ive read many gamers are just playing till something else comes along/game is done at 60 (if you make it that far)
City of Heros - not designed for long periods of play/gets old quick
City of Villains - see CoH
Auto Assault - see CoH
Guild Wars - not an MMO
EvE - very complex and requires a lot of patience (one of the last hardcore MMO's)
SWG - SOE can't decide which game they will release this year
So, unless you're a die hard of a previous MMO that you've played, you're pretty much limited.
