I voted CU because of no buff lines and as a Smuggler I actually had a few working shots.

pre-pub9 pre CU, how many of you so called Jedi were even born then?

Ziz was born into permadeath, bring it back please, men from the boys and all that.

I think I can name all the WH Jedi that dealt with permadeath and count them on one hand.

Now that's an interesting thought.

Anybody fancy going back to 4444 guardian pre-CU?

Oh please.

I remember running around as MBH Mcarbs pre-CU, they removed the master scout requirement for BH. Loved it actually, nothing better than kicking the shit out of a stacker with a carb when all you had for defence was your comp.
[/b]

Yeah, I remember that, a BH-Carb user could be very deadly. But you had to know what you were doing.

Still, the skill point requirements fo BH & Commando were ridiculous for what you got. There are actually a couple of things the CU did right, throw them into the Pre-CU system, and man, you got yourself one giddy wookiee.

I've noticed that for the most part that the people who actually had some sort of success for the first time in the CU are the only ones who prefer that system.

That being said, there are exceptions. I know I sucked in all 3 versions, but I prefer pre-CU.

Ummmmmmmmm, what are you trying to say about me?

Oh I had a lot more success in CU....but that is only because Commando was a lot more useful in CU than Pre-CU. Like I said, preferred pre-CU, but it certainly wasn't perfect.

I'll take Pre-CU in a heartbeat if they only made the skill requirements for Commando and BH the same as in the CU.
[/b]

That sounds good. God damnit I miss being a Commando so much

Smuggler was less broke in the CU as far as combat. Really the only reason I prefered CU to pre-CU was that I hated spending 30 minutes getting buff to do anything.

So are you telling me all those great TDP v ARMY battles could have happened in either pre-CU or NGE?

Bugger that was supposed to quote Noah's pre-CU > NGE > CU [/b]

Those three weeks were the best time I had in SWG, if that kind of fun lasted all of the CU's lifespan, then yes, CU would have ruled over everything, however, after many nerfs to my proffession, it got worse. :(

"That being said, there are exceptions..."

I'm not going to name names, but there are quite a few people who say they prefer CU. The people I'm specificly refering to were nameless PvE players in the pre-CU, or at best meat shields in the PvP arena. For some reason they came to prominance during the CU. I'm just saying that of course those people are going to prefer CU.

ROFL!

You are so referring to me....though, I think "prominence" is a little strong for me. Decoy is closer to the truth.

No, not you. Just certain jedi and bh's...

It depends what you prefer though I guess, back in the old rifleman/tka/fencer stacker days pre-CU I was a lot more deadly than I ever was in CU but where is the fun in running around owning people who can't even hit you?

That's why I voted CU, balance was so much better.

I still remember the first time I met Spyff, back then I didn't know anyone else who had the rifle/tka template.

So I'm wandering around City of Steel looking for red dots and one pops up and the fight is on.

After about 10 minutes (a very long fight for pre-CU) it dawns on both of us that we have the same template MTKA/Mrifles/4000 Fencer. Spyff got me in the end and we both walked away firm friends.

Over the next couple of months there was a lot of fighting over the Mos Krayt bases and there would be me on the reb side and Spyff on the imp side, it was like a little private war as we both sought each other out on the battlefield.

And then that guy got banned on some other server because a GM watched him killing pickets without once getting hit and the secret was out, if you took the right boxes in fencer along with the MTKA and Mrifles you became almost untouchable. He wasn't cheating, he got un-banned but the template was exposed to the masses and the exodus began.

Shotly after they patched a 'fix' for it, I remember logging in and getting a /tell from Spyff saying the template didn't work anymore and sure enough I got some TDP guys to shoot at me and they could hit me almost every time.

I did manage to get some of the effectiveness back by switching to MRifles/MFencer and 4000 TKA but it was never the same again.

But to be honest, there should never have been such a template, SOE should have made sure that no combination of skill trees would ever give a single person a large advantage over anyone else. Bad design and testing.

Another reason I picked CU was due to the combat changes to Smuggler I was able to single-handedly defeat TDP in the guild war.

TDP were easy lol

i say CU and Pre-cu (patch 9+ because 0f the bug fix's) were great but the thing that makes me pick CU is there was more jedi for me to kill on my BH :p, and pre-cu had crazy 1k mind fire dots which just makes it unfair, the 30min buffage was not a problem, it was a time to meet up and plan before you went overt or went to find a group and also melee BH was the SHIT!!!!!!! if i could be a good melee BH in CU it would of owned

I just want to add something I kind of told Fluffy last night...

Basically, I think that the pre-CU was a blast. I don't like combat levels, and I always think that hurt the game. I think CU had some merit though, especiall for Commandoes, and it got rid of those horrid buff lines, and the constant need for paying someone ELSE to make you effective in combat. (10k every time you logged in ugh.)

There ARE some good things about the NGE, but honestly it's just either the same things rehashed from pre-cu or cu (with most likely better code from the sound of it), or things stolen from WoW.

I don't mind the NGE, but cu and pre-cu rocked the world. An improvement upon both with some mixings going on would have been the best combination.
