32 killed on US campus

Now they have a name and a previous residence...

I don't recall the name, but he is originally from South Korea and was living in Centreville, VA. He was a Senior and an English Major.

I know you said NVM and I'm not jumping down your throat, but just wanted to comment. Having a background in law enforcement/security, even if the school thought that the first shooting was an isolated incident, it still took 2 hours to notify students and there had been no apprehension of a suspect. On any college campus, regardless how isolated an incident may be, when it's a shooting of students and there are no leads into the shooter, that school should have been locked down and students notified to be on the look out.

With that said, yes, it's very difficult to lock down a campus the size of tech's...if no one has been there it's HUGE! But, you do the best you can and at the very least contain the area where the shooting happened and a radius outside of that. In the meantime the school ask for assistance from local and state law enforcement to patrol the remainder of campus.

Is it overreaction to what would normally be an every day event anywhere else in the world? Definitely, but when you are a major university and parents are spending big bucks (tech ain't cheap) to attend your school not only to get a good education, but also to be secure...it's that schools job to do everything in it's power possible to keep students safe.

All in all, Tech dropped the ball on this and their reasoning from what I've heard just sounds like a lot of C.Y.A.

where did you read that? those people need to be shot. if they ever come to florida, i'll be meeting them there :mad:
 
This whole thing is nothing more then a media circus. Last night the local news felt best to spend 2 hours covering everything they covered the day before. Then Dateline decides to do this whole debacle with heart tugging stories and awesome questioning like, "So, the gunman bought a gun at your store...tell us what that was like."

Now here's what gets me. South Korea feels the need to apologize, have sent diplomats to VT, and apparently their president is going to make some sort of apology in a news conference. Why? The only link that South Korea has to this kid is that he was born there, lived there for eight years, and then spent 15 years in the US. They have no earthly reason to apologize for any of this...for crying out loud.
