So, first thursday with no class in 6 months. I had the night planned to go downtown with friends. And in comes the damn snow storm. According to the news, it will take me 5 hours to go downtown:

Well,
since you can't go downtown. You should find a girl who will go downtown on you :P

it just happens that this girl is the one i was supposed to meet downtown

Had an ex that lived up in your neck of the woods, Stav. Try plotting a course that wouldn't take ... a week in this weather, from there to Downers Grove. It just ain't fucking possible. (Even under optimal conditions its barely possible... stupid arterial roadways). edens->kennedy->ike->I-88 FTL. Then again, blasting to the tristate and taking that to 88's just as bad, worse with construction. There's no escape from the suck in Chicagoland, I'm tellin' ya.

Hoof it into Wilmette and take the all-stop Redline down :) That's your only other option (screw the Skokie Swift, that thing's scary)

i don't like riding the L alone at night....and the Metra is worse. seriously creeps me out...

Speaking of uptown, thats where my dad landed when he first came here. lived there all his life and ended up buying the places he lived in, so he has a few uptown apartment buildings with his brothers :P

Heading north on the L latenight isn't bad at all. The motormen are a riot in the tiny hours :) Just sit up front in the first car, its all good.

what about heading south? i gotta go south to go downtown. what are the chances of me getting mugged?

You're fine, man. Make it to Wilmette, that's the hard part. The rest is up to the CTA :P Where are you headed, anyway?

well, i WAS headed to Halsted & Armitage. was gonna go have dinner down the street from there, and then swing over to Marquee Lounge right on the corner

*takes this to a more secure channel*

Join us next time on 'Travels with Rankin and Stavrose' for our exploration of the Great Circle Route around Lake Michigan. Its neither a circle, nor really a route. And godDAMN is it cold this time of year!

could be worse you could be sliding down the runway at the airport :P ( check your tv)

Bah, Midway's for nubs! (nice footage tho, omg..)

Armitage is a wicked anime.

holy shit, people fly southwest airlines? and like ranking said, midway is for nubs who would rather drive 4 extra hours to get to an airport where flights are $100 cheaper.

but i gotta say, thats fucked up. Whats funny though, is that ABC won't cut into the movie Head of State with Chris Rock to report the breaking news. Oh wait, they just broadcased a winter weather warning above the movie.....

You *know* Chicago's Finest are gonna try ticketing that thing. Abandoned vehicles and all. That or Empire Towing will cart the fucker off and Southwest'll play hell getting it back. I'm sure its blocking two or three fire hydrants or something...

LOL, pretty soon it will be exposed that the entire crash was staged and there are links back to Mayor Daley saying his administration staged it in order to ticket Southwest for wreckless driving and vehicle abandonment so they can pocket the money from those fines.

And Southwest will go " :o  <_< " at them and not pay, then Daley gets to fuck up TWO* airports during his tenure by making a huge production about the efficacy of Midway's fencing as it relates to out of control aircraft, all while not allowing Southwest to have its damn plane back (impounded for unpaid parking tickets by then).

*Daley drilled giant X's into the runway at Meigs Field (the scary one on Lake Michigan you used to take off from, buzz the planetarium dome, and then try to "thread the needle" of the radio masts on the Hancock Tower in any version of MS Flight Sim released prior to that point. Why did Daley do this? Because he viewed the airfield as a threat to Chicago's skyline (within a week of September 11, 2001). The only planes that landed there were light, civillian stuff. There's documented proof that it took some pretty serious weight-savings to get a 737 to even *land* there to be able to stop before rolling off the end of the runway with bone-dry tanks (said plane was donated by United for an exhibit at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. It was barged from the end of Meigs' runway down the lakeshore a few miles to the MSI campus, craned over Lake Shore Drive, and jacked into the museum in the '80s.) Daley didn't even bother telling the FAA he'd shut the airfield down - they only found out after complaints made it back to Washington. And Meigs today? Well, the terminal building still exists, but the rest of the runway/taxiways, parking, ramp space, etc. was turned into some bizarre lakeside prairie planting project. Hizzonor's batshit-crazy at times, I swear.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Stavrose @ Dec 8 2005, 11:19 PM)
omg, you did NOT bring back memories of Meigs Field

Lol, spontaneous rant ftW!

I loved Meigs. Not that I know how to fly or anything, I just loved the concept of it. Dinky little airfield RIGHT THERE on the lake. The Chicago Park District uses the terminal building as office space now, the bastards. Like they don't already have enough of that after practically starting from scratch at Soldier Field.

... and nobody else has the first f'ing clue what we're talking about. We need a "Chicago Rants" forum, Stav!
