Even though I hardly ever log in now and the NGE has taken away all my desire to play, I kinda admire them for their intentions. It's just too bad they handled it so poorly. They gambled big time with the NGE and lost (apparently).
It sucks that they decided to shaft crafters (actually all non-combat professions), that was laziness and nothing else. It's also got to do with making everyone truly equal. I don't know if you realized by now, but it wouldn't matter if weappnsmiths would still be able to enhance weapons with tissues/cells, or had a separate line to experiment on something else, because all weapons from the same class do roughly the same damage. Ofcourse the no decay idea is probably the worst they came up with, and the #1 reason crafters are more or less useless.
As for combat, the idea is a step forward. They exaggerated a bit with the pace of things and ruined a strong plus of SWG, the fluid, ultra-realistic animations. To be honest here, I think the new system can be a lot better than CU-style combat, if they ever fix it. PvP was fun now and then, not very exciting 90% of the time, but more or less enjoyable. PvE on the other hand was absolutely horrible and boring in CU, I remember draining half my force on my jedi once, trying to kill a stormtrooper for a ridiculous amount of time. The biggest downers right now would probably be the much-faster-than-necessary pace and the UGLY and inaccesible interface.
There is much room for improvement right now, but I fear, this time, it'll take way too long for anyone's taste.
