Why NGE must fail.

I know that some of you are liking the NGE. But it needs to fail.

If NGE makes it, then every MMOG that you play has the risk of being "enhanced" at the whim of a development team or an accounting department. Some of us, myself included, have spent years doing stuff in game that has been rendered useless by the NGE. Why would I ever consider doing that again knowing that the next game I play could have the same outcome?

You can rest assured that every exec in every MMOG is watching this very closely. If NGE fails, it will serve as a text book example of what not to do. If NGE passes, then all bets are off as to how and when a game can be restructured. If a game doesn't meet profit goals for a few quarters, you should expect these types of wholesale changes that mimic the current market leader (in this case WoW).

Something to think about. For those of you that are still on the fence, cancel. They save your toon info for months. For those of you still in SWG, you should strongly consider cancelling too. If you don't, you have no reason to expect that they won't pull the rug out from under you in the future.

Thanks and g'nite all.

very wise words, however, the reasoning behind NGE is that sony can release SWG on the PS3 Platform. In turn they are making alot more money by selling out to the console. Opens it up to a wider spectrum of customers and keeps some of the PC customers along the way. They will make more money this way which is all they care about. (isnt that what most the world revolves around) So their pockets get fatter while the games lasts. Dont get me wrong i hate the NGE. It has ups tho, but more downs 10 fold. If projected sales would reach a 25-50% increase by realeasing it on PS3 and only lose 10-20% of PC users, they still make out in the end. Besides everyone would have to buy a copy for their PS3 making them more money on top of the existing montly customers who have owned the game on PC for up to 2 1/2 years. The way they see it is strictly widening the audience to make more money. There hundreds of thousands of Star Wars Fans. Some will see Star Wars on the box and buy it thinking its like 95% of the other console games out there single player or limited mulitplayer. Once that box is open they cannot return that game the customers loss, SOE still gets the money. They are blind to see that the "elder" community, the people who will always be there, will slowly decline till they are no more, and then the ADD prone console persons will eventually get bored or move on to another "cool" game that is released down the road, ending in the inevitable server shutdowns of SWG forever. /catchbreath.....

yes it sucks i know, but SOE did it to them selfs. /chucknorrisroundhousekicktoSOEshead!

I don't disagree that the goal is console sales. It seems that at this point in time, console based MMOGs are the not very common. I could be worng, but most console multiplayer games are limited to small groups. The new hardware may change that, but not for some time.

Regardless, SOE could have made NGE a new product, and offered it as a migration path. They did not need to implement it in a heavy handed fashion.

does SOE have a plan on how they are going to release patches and expansions if there is a console version made? they would lose a lot more money from the inability to push out each $30 expansion to the consoles

I would not trust anything that anyone at SOE says. So I totally discount Smed's denials. He uses qualifiers in his statements like "at this time" which allow him to backtrack on anything he says.

Regardless, no gaming company should be able to force this kind of change on players without proper testing, consultation and approval. We are still customers and I think that SOE has seen that many have voted and cancelled. Many more than they expected.

Additionally, they royally pissed people off. So much so that people are slamming them on every product forum (Amazon, EBGames, etc..) that they can get their hands on. The bad news of this game has travelled far and wide, and SOE has no one to thank for this but themselves.

Lastly, I find it interesting that Smed came in and made the posts about the game and NOT Julio Torres. Methinks that Julio has or will get the axe for this as the fall guy. Anyone wanna bet me?

SOE President is a fuckin liar!

You can put everybody to help you, and go to every magazine or at least the most popular ones and make a bad review. There is a lot of people that buy by reading reviews. Like me.

And you wont get in trouble cause is your opinion of the game, in this case, the opinion of MANY people. They don't listen when you post in their forums, how about we post in every magazine's forums and review pages. ;)

I have been doing that, not flaming or even naming SOE at all. Just saying the bad aspects of the game, and that if anyone wishes to buy it it would be as if you are paying for beta testing of their game.... And you guys can imagine the rest.

Because if you flame the company, people wont take you seriously, they will think is something personally with the company and they wont read the reviews.

What do you guys think?

Great Idea, I agree with the OP, the NGE needs to fail, and fail hardcore.

if you flame thge company in and only itself, like say I HATE SOE< SOE SUCKS, etc i agree, but if you make valid points as in " SWG was a great game, and SOE changed it for unknown reason, or They changed this and didnt tell the players, so i feel uncared for by this company" is a little differnt

Read this on the Game Play forum Eawet, you hit it right on the head, it don't matter if you like the NGE or not, the concept of the sweeping change that blindsided us all has got to be put out of the heads of these game developers as something that is "okay" to do.

fuck em, fuck em all. what i find most difficult to believe is that there are still people (vets) out there playing this shit.

Everything they have done to this point has been a slap in the face to veteran players. They want us to leave. Part of their grand vision or business plan I'm sure.

Ive made 145 million in the last 4 days with NGE lol, im only sticking around cause im waiting for PoBS to come out. Till then i am SWG

Very good post. I think that the NGE has impacted the entire MMO community. Apparently Blizzard went out of the way to repeated assure their customers that no such change was being contemplated.

I love the DnL welcome SWG exiles thread too. So ya - big impact throughout the industry.

As for Torres needing to go? You are absolutely right, but not sure if Smed is innocent or not. His letter was interesting, reading between the lines. How to improve the game "assuming that the nge stays" sounds like he has his orders, but is trying to create some wiggle room.

Smedly is a theif and a liar, and should not be president of such a "used-to-be-great" company's division. Fuck him, if i ever see him Im going to kick him in the balls so many times his great-great-grandkids wont be able to get it up.
