Whats your opinion on a Pink PS3 for girls?

I was thinking with the whole women embracing gaming debate, what do you guys think of a Pink PS3?

I know the limitations of forcasting demand for such a version, but lets say if we added the price to produce the pink plastic on the Selling Price do you think it would sell. Is there a Market for it?

I reference to Ansoff's Matrix, I think it would be revolutionary, and get Sony in womens good books

I know Wanderhomies is not a real analysis of demographics, but I wamted to guage opinion here first.

It would be well for Japan, but not as good for the US. Tho' maybe for young girls.

As a woman gamer, I'd rather have a really techie looking machine than a pink machine.

Yeah, but your one of those women who likes techie stuff, not to be sterotypical, but most teenage girls are fluffy, duffy kinda girls.

PS3 isn't marketed for girls. I am betting the only girls that buy a PS3 are going to be the ones who are just as hardcore a gamer as any other college frat boy. If anything is going to get the PS3 sold to girls is it going to be bi-gender games, not a pink PS3.

I know you hate to admit this, but that is what the Wii is doing. Making games like Wii sports, a new Mario, A new Mario strikers and such are games both genders can play. Games like FFXIII, Metal Gear Solid 4, any PS3 game I have seen are geared towards a guys game.

It would be like taking a dark manly beer that has commercials that are nothing but men doing manly things and saying "this is a man's beer" and then putting it in a pink can for the ladies all the while keeping the commercials nothing but boobs and "this is a man's beer" theme, it just wouldn't get the ladies buying it.

Are you calling me a girl now? That's it Sony boy, we rumble!!!!

On a more serious note, the Pink DS sells quite well with women in Japan & the US, I don't think Sony showing they cater to women would be a bad idea.

Needless to say you haven't seen the Advertising Campaign yet, .

45% of the gaming market is women.

I agree, and I have read many studies on this matter. The first company that conquers the womens market, will be at a very significant advantage. Currently Nintendo are winning this battle as Fluffy has stated above, and I feel it would be to Sony's disadvantage to dis-engage women like Pave has suggested.

It may be women, but it is not women who would not buy a PS3 if it were silver, but would if it was pink. I have asked girls who have played games in the 16/32 bit age and stopped in the 64 bit age (had a NES, SNES, N64, then stopped) and asked if they would start playing again and most said no because they don't like the games that are getting put out.

All I'm saying, is I doubt a pink PS3 will get many extra women to buy it. Some women who already were going to get one may get it, but I am doubting many who had little plans of getting one before had will say "it is pink..I shall get it"

I think you need to engage women, but the pink thing is overdone.

Go the half-naked man route, with games that have women as the heroines without wearing a bikini - and you'll have your women.

Again. I think you have the right idea as far as going after the woman market. But, I agree with Pawe. Do it in the games you contract with, not with the color pink. That will only go so far, and you will actually loose sales from women who are tired of companies trying to "feminize" products simply by changing their color.

Not a single one seems to be something that any sex and any age group could/would play. Get some games in there that would work with everyone. I don't think that is in the realm of your job description, and I don't think that is what Sony is trying to do to be honest.

It has become pretty common that the Xbox and PS3 are fighting over the same target marker, while Nintendo has usually geared towards the kids/nintendo fanbois. With the Wii though and Ubisoft loving it, they seem to be not only going for the kids/Nintendo diehards but also somewhat towards the market that Sony/microsoft seem to focus on, which is nothing but a good thing in my eyes.

What if we sell Pink ones and say its to help Breast Cancer charities, and therefore sending a cut of our profits from the pink brand to help the research.

Stepping out of the Wii/PS3 selling debate, I think the Wii has made steps to bring women into their market as compared to Sony. Sony is certainly going for the "hardcore" gamer as compared to Nintendo going after the "casual" gamers. As much as your research shows 45% of all gamers are women, how many of those women fall under hardcore (like a Tiv, or the other women here at WHies) as compared to the casual (like my wife, who gets frustrated with the newer games being too button precision demanding).

I think Pink PS3s are a good step, but also the non-objectified female leads would help, as would a more encompassing marketing approach. Not saying make the PS3 commericals soft, but not make them a beer commercial either.

Again, don't want to get a PS3/Wii debate going again, but I think how the two have presented themselves is where your answer about the female marketshare lies.

You didn't say that before :P

If you are really going to give profits to the research and it doesn't cost anymore than the regular systems, then yes. I think that would be innovative and work. Just make sure they contract with games that aren't only the ones pawe has above.

I still like my beer commercial analogy to compair it to the pink PS3.

Obviously I cannot take for SCEA, but Advertisements need to appeal to both genders in my opinion.

Pave I don't think most girls are worried, about titles I know alot of girls who like alot of those games, and they are seriously not hardcore :P
