i have found that with avatars - if you upload it somewhere and link to it rather than uploading from your computer then they work......

if someone has already said this somewhere else then oops

I tried linking and while it worked I found it didn't do it the correct size.
It would only show the avatar at 150x150 no matter if it was smaller. I refreshed a lot and no use.
