Ultraviolet
This movie starts off with Milla Jovanovich saying, "I was born in a world you may not understand." What she should've said was, "You're going to be watching a movie you may not understand." Don't get me wrong, it was a neat little sci-fi acid trip, but it was really stretching it at times. I liked the cool little sci-fi world, and the background story. But the plot of the movie was weak, and just gave you an overall fake and unbelievable feeling. For example, Ultraviolet can infiltrate a facility and overpower 500 solders on her own, without getting hit once even though they're all shooting at her. Or when her hand gets cut while grabbing a blade, but when she grabs a rope that is falling, and smoke comes out of her grip from the friction as she brings it to a stop, her hands are fine. The effects were TOO unbelievable. Not only to you, but to the movie world as well. What did this movie need? A better plot, a bump up to the R rating so it can actually include some blood and gore, and not just the "swing'n'miss and now you're dead" action. It also needed to show some more skin on Milla Jovanovich. Seeing her bare back and ass in UV light was not enough. In fact, she should've done the whole movie naked. My grade: C-
16 Blocks
My first impression on the movie when it first started off was, "God damn, i thought Bruce Willis was getting old in 6th Sense." Well, in 6th Sense, he looks like 15 years younger than in 16 Blocks. God damn does he look like crap in that movie. Then again, thats the role of the cop he plays. Anyway, i ended up enjoying this movie. The plot was very well thought out, the story was powerful, and the suspense always kept you interested. I'll admit, there were times when i was like, "OK, seriously, when is this guy's luck going to run out?" But that was towards the end. Could the movie have been 15-30 minutes shorter? Although it did feel that way at one point, after it ended, i thought that it was the perfect length to give the audience the feeling and impressions they were hoping for. Nice little plot twists, great story. My Grade: A-
