Thermonuclear weapon high yield detonation effects simulator

It would take a 17000KT nuke dropped in the center of chicago for the outermost rim of effect to touch the location of my house. SO if chicago gets nuked, that's fine, as long as it isn't 17000KT and i'm not in the city :P

He lives in Chicago... it isn't an issue.

Kilotons...

Hate to break it to ya, but Pyongyang and Tehran are the only folks dealing in that nuclear-noob range. I don't even think the US has anything as small as 17 megatons (what it'd take to blow out the windows in Stav's house if we nuked the Loop).

Hiroshima was 20 kilotons...

Nukes aren't fun and games. :/

Say that to all the newly created mutants.

The New Mutants was an awesome comic, that later became X-Force. I think i was the only one who liked that series

I believe most U.S. nukes are sub-megaton; some go down to the single-digit kiloton range. Lower than about 10-Kton would be considered "tactical" or "surgical".

The Soviets were making a big deal about 100-Mton nukes for a while in the 1960's. That kind of yield is important if your accuracy sucks, and also if you are going for the phallic-symbol PR. The U.S. made a big deal about accuracy, so the same military effect could be achieved by smaller weapons and delivery systems.

I haven't much followed this stuff since the early 1980's, so there is a chance that my numbers are off, but I don't think by much.

Reagan scared the hell out of me. I learned all I could cram into my adolescent head back then. Then one day it dawned on me... I live about about 25 miles due west of Chicago's Loop, equidistant from O'Hare International Airport, Argonne National Labs, and Fermilab. Pick one, it wasn't gonna matter with that 100 megaton flash-fry "what, us accurate?" shot. It the target was Great Lakes Naval Station, we had a chance down here. Not much of one at 100mt, but... tactically, its just a training station, the war-making hardware doesn't live in the Great Lakes.

Stopping short of piling dirt up against the basement windows, I was content just to study it into submission. MAD makes plenty of sense when you're dealing with two superpowers. Its easier to shrug your way out of if one of the parties is stark raving nuts or thinks jihad is a valid political method of effecting change. Will Kim Jong Il use a nuke? He's just nuts enough to attempt lofting one over Japan, just cause it would piss them off. Do I see him lobbing one 30 miles over the border into Seoul? No. Is Ahmedinejad up to no good? Given the anti-Isreal rhetoric coming from Iran, probably. But he's also made enough pertainant noises concerning nuclear power plants to quiet the usual hawks. It makes sense. To morons. Morons that have forgotten how much oil Iran is sitting on.

Do as we say, not as we do. There's no good way out of any of this :/
