We just got told they are putting in security cameras all over the building...for security and performance evaluation.

Anyone hiring?

Busted! They've seen on the net logs exactly how much time you spend on WHomies! :P :D

How long till they put up security checkpoints, razor wire, and armed guards? :P

But ya.. that sucks. :/ Wouldn't this constitute a violation of privacy? I mean I can understand putting cameras in hallways and service areas and the such but in work spaces? kinda overboard. :/

Eh, I don't see the big deal as long as they're not looking at your compy screen to make sure you're working constantly :P

Security cameras can be great in the event of break-ins and so on. :)

I agree in security cameras are great - at the front door.

They're going to be used specifically in performance reviews - so they will be pointed at our computers to spy on what we're doing.

Well... if you really want to catch their attention just work on your resume in your office. :P

Respectfully,

Mack

They will put cameras up, leave them on for about a week to scare everyone, then most likely turn them off.

I did that yesterday. :)

My manager (my boss' boss) came in yesterday and just shook his head. He's a great guy who really should retire soon. Someone asked him what he thought of our room, and he just shook his head again and said "the world these days".

Oh, and I applied for two media jobs yesterday. If I don't get anything back within a day I'll start looking for jobs in the fields I don't really want, but I'd work in.

maybe they should just teach your IT department to monitor you from their computers rather then put up cameras, thats sorta ghetto. And for my IT department if they are watching... FUCK YOU.... :D

There is no real reason to use cameras to monitor employees' work time. Most likely they're putting in fake cameras. Facing real (recorded, since that would be required to use them in reviews) cameras at everyone's computer screens would cost prohibitive.

So then why say they'll be used in performance eval's? I can get it if they were going to try for the big brother approach - but that tells me I should expect to see a recording of myself in July.

Ah well, fake or real I'm outta here.

They'll just tell you they reviewed your security tape and (assuming you've been productive enough) tell you it didn't show any major problems. Anyway, it's certainly possible that they're installing real DVRed cameras. Stupid, but possible.
