New MMO

We all know by now that Bioware (makers of Knight of the Old Republic) is currently working on their first MMORPG in Austin, TX. right now but does anyone know what the setting of the game will be? I have heard (and hoping for) that it is in fact Star Wars but I haven't read it personally myself anywhere. We all know how rumors are but does anyone know for sure what it is going to be and could you link your source if you do?

i suppose so but id always thought of things in the star wars genre to be science fiction?

anyways you know what i meant

Think it's about time Jess paid back all those favours she owes me heh

oh jess I got a mission for you :D *smirk*

well the applicants for the design jobs have to write a story to support that kind of environment for Neverwinter Nights to see how their creativty is but it could be a distraction so people won't automatically speculate that it is indeed Star Wars. Then again, I could be just wishful thinking. Nevertheless, I hear rumors that it is Star Wars just like you hear it is Neverwinter Nights... guess we just have to play the waiting game

How about simple waiting. I dun wanna play any game.

I've heard similar rumors, Ultimo: That it's going to be a "Sci-Fi MMO" and many people are already saying KOTOR MMO. There's no proof of any of it anywhere so we can only hope for the best.

If its not a KOTOR MMO, then I hope they set it in the Fallout universe. A Fallout MMO would be the Pure-Ass Heat!

I didn't want to say that it was going to be a KOTOR MMO but that is the rumors I actually heard. Fill me in on the "Fallout" universe.. I am not familiar with it.

Based on past events I'm fairly certain Bioware would favor making a NWN MMO instead of SW. The issue there comes with that MMO being a competitor to D&DO, which the IP of both belong to WotC (unless that's changed).

What it comes down to, why make a SW MMO and have to deal with LA when they could make a NWN MMO with far less interference?

Very true Cora..a very good point. But why not use the biggest name in Sci-Fi (or Fantasy for that matter) to to build a sucessful product. I am sure that Bioware is aware of the Star Wars fans screaming and demanding for a new MMO. They know how SOE screwed up and that the fan base is still out there....waiting.

Yes, but unfortunately I'm guessing they also know those screaming fans are impossible to please, along with the IP owners at LA.

I'd like a new SW MMO, like many would, but I'm being realistic when I say there are just too many negatives involved when you start putting SW, Bioware, and MMORPG in the same sentence.

BTW, according to Bioware, this new over-hyped MMORPG is slated for release in 2009:

BioWare has not announced the name or described the nature of its online game, but Dalton said it will be launched in 2009. Dalton said his firm wants to do more than match the state of the art represented by such online games as World of Warcraft. He expects the complex event processing built into his firm's game to allow richer role playing and interactions between players.

So, whatever it is, won't be what it is until '09. And by then no one will care. :)
