Netflix vs. Blockbuster

A) Getting info from blogs is like doing research from geocities sites. Once i saw it was from a blog, i didn't bother reading it.
B ) I still fail to see how paying the same price per month, Netflix gives you unlimited rentals at 3 out at a time is a better deal than getting the same from Blockbuster Online PLUS 4 free in-store rentals per month

They weren't "bloggers" Stav, they were market analysts putting thier conflicting opinions about the market battle right now. Sorry you didn't read it, it was some great info in there about both companies.

regardless what market info exists, i still fail to see how B is false. You get more the same money.

Answer me this then, I heard that you can not get "new releases" from the online site until 30 days after release, is this true? Say for example, King Kong, you were able to get this the day it released on DVD, yes or no? I don't know, I was reading some info about BB and came across some ratings that claimed that.

It says that new releases might take a day or two extra to arrive. And as far as new releases, I usually get those via the 4 in-store free rentals. I mean, how many good new releases are there per month? maybe 2? King Kong is definately not something i care for watching.

Here's the current new releases:
http://blockbuster.com/catalog/LoadCatalog...pe=Movie%20List

I arranged them by release date. In the entire month of April, there isn't a single new release i'd rent. March? None. February? The Weatherman, Waitng. January? Flightplan, Lord of War, Transporter 2.

See what I mean? Most new releases suck ass. Big hairy sweaty ass.

didn't have time to read it all, but it was pretty interesting, i'll come back after class to finish it

I don't care if you don't like new releases right now (cause at some point in time there will be a new release or two you want) and to get them you have to travel to a BB store to get them? Kind of defeats the purpose, no?

Then I was also reading about this issue due to the fact that BB's online library and delivery capabilities are not on par with Netflix's:
---

When I signed up for the 3 DVD service, I created my queue. The first 3 DVDs were shipped. When they were returned, only 2 DVDs were shipped. I waited 5 days. No email arrived to explain why I had not been shipped a third DVD.

I emailed the service dept and was told that even though the DVDs in my queue were listed as available, Blockbuster had a policy that they would not ship a DVD if it could not arrive in 3-5 days. They made the decision that none of the 30 DVDs in my queue would arrive in that period because their Las Vegas location, the one they shipped to me from, did not have any of the DVDs in my queue on hand. So they just did not ship anything and did not notify me as to the reason.

---

So, initially I was trying to post an article that was a stimulating read about both companies buisness status (not about Netflix > BB or visa versa), but since you insist on just saying: "BB is better end of story", I now am providing you with details on how BB is an inferior service to Netflix and thus why Netflix is still better than BB and why their stock is soaring as comapred to BB. But thanks for taking the conversation in that direction.

Oh, and thanks Whewa, it is an interesting read coming from both sides of the buisness argument.

fucking server, ate up my post after i clicked submit. and it was a damn good post too. cocksuckers....

to recap:
  • I've heard PLENTY of netflix horror stories, so many that one made it into the Chicago Sun Times. Devoted a whole page article on how Netflix blacklists people. They monitor your DVD renting habits, and if they see that you're renting and returning too frequently for their taste, they purposely blacklist you and have your orders permanently delayed in the shipping progress. Something to do about Netflix losing money if you're a frequent renter. I've been a "frequent renter" for a few months. I send all my DVDs back within a day or two from when I recieve them, and ALWAYS have gotten the next batch within 3 days. No blacklisting.
  • I'm not defying any purpose. I got BBO for one reason: exploitation. There's a blockbuster i go by every day, right by my house, its not really a hassle for me to walk to it. However, using BBO instead of renting from the store allows me to exploit the system by renting many more DVDs for a lower price than I would have to pay for renting the same amount from the store. When the counter-lady gave me the BBO promo speech at the front desk when I was checking out a DVD, I quickly did the math in my head.
  • Since the ENTIRE BBO/Netflix debate is completely opinion based, there really is no way to say which is better. Yes, there will be a time when a bunch of new releases come out that I will want. I doubt there will be 4 of them in a month, but if there are, thats fine. I dont get nervous breakdowns if I don't get new DVD releases the day they come out. I can wait. Bottom line is, this debate is entirely opinion based. People have different tastes, desires, lunacies, etc. Take Artica's anime fetish for example, thats reason enough for her to go to netflix. BBO gives me the best bang for the buck that fit my needs. If you're looking at this from a completely business-savvy perspective, blockbuster online is the obvious winner. That is how I see it. BBO pwns netflix 3 times over cause i get more for the same money. In conclusion, BBO is better than netflix, because it better suits my needs and wants than netflix does.

Yeah Netflix has a BIG selection, also tons of anime, which BB doesn't and will never have.

Inclined to agree, especially since BB location is convenient to work and home.
I've compared the 2, for me as well, BBO would be better.
Netflix may have originated the idea, and props to them for that, but they don't have a location spitting distance from here where I could go if I just had to have an extra movie right away.

Also the two BBs in town (that I know) closed their doors a couple of months ago. Reasons?! Dunno exactly why, but they usually had a Hollywood Video or Videoking as neighbors. Those have been there Forever. And then, most people I know have netflix. So I suppose they broke and died.
Now that I remember, I think there is a BB by the mall. But that's in the other side of town. :P
