My first Airsoft game.

djmtott

What's my name again?
I had a real good time for the most part. I had a few equipment problems that kept me out for a bit, but when everything was going good I had a blast.

We went to a place called Mt. Ord, which is about 40 miles outside of the Phoenix area. Once off the nice asphalt highway we had to drive up the mountain on a very rocky single lane trail. Was pretty hairy at times, occasionaly there were times when immediately off the trail was a large dropoff down the side of the mountain, and no railing of any type.

The first game consisted of a 30 minute double elimination game as a warmup. Kinda sucked for me because my goggles fogged up real bad. I had to try and find my way out of the hot zone without taking my goggles off. After the game was over someone was kind enough to treat my goggles and glasses with anti-fog, so that problem was solved for the rest of the day.

The second game was great. They setup 2 cones a few hundred feet apart, and a makeshift hut a few hundred feet further back. The tan team was charged with defending the area, while the green team had to take and hold the area around the first cone, then the second cone, and in the end take the hut.
We had a great rock formation near the first cone where we dug in, the green team talked alot about how tough it was to take that cone with people behind the rocks. Unfortunately, halfway through the game (lasted 2 hours) my gun stopped firing. I figured it was the battery, so I left the battle and put the battery on the charger. The battery charged up but the gun still didn't fire. After the game was over some of the guys took a look at it and found that some of the leads in the handle had come loose and fell off. That was the last of my technical problems of the day.

The third game was the same as the second game, except the roles were reversed. Some of the people left (mostly tan) so we were outnumbered and attacking a larger force that was dug in and ready. Needless to say it didn't go over well, but we still had fun.

Sounds like it was fun man, cool gear/ pictures :D . Thats to bad about the technical problems :(

Technical problems help you learn. Now I know I should get my own anti-fog and I know a bit more about how to maintain my gun.

Whenever you get hit you're supposed to yell out "HIT!", put your hands up, then pull out your red "death rag" and either leave the zone or go back to your respawn area.

The first game was double elimination, so once you're hit you go to the respawn point, and on the second hit you leave the area.

For the second and third games once you got hit you had to go back to your respawn point for 10 minutes, then you re-enter the game. There was no limit to the amount of times you could respawn.

I learned 5 things:

1- use sunscreen
2- use sunscreen
3- use sunscreen
4- gear (besides your gun) is very important
5- communication is critical

Elaborate. Like, what you are wearing?

Yeah. From what I'm told some people will go nuts spending money on their gun, but they spend a minimal amount on their gear.

When I say gear I'm talking about your vest, pouches, radio, goggles/glasses, hat, etc...

For instance, I really needed a dump pouch for my expended magazines. I ended up putting them back in their pouches, and it was tough trying to remember which ones were full or empty. Someone told me a trick that you should put your empty mags upside down in the pouches, even then you might end up opening a few pouches before you found a full one. In some intense action that could be a disaster.

From what I've seen so far, hard core airsofters spend as much or more detail to gear than they do their guns.

Also, I spent $1,000 just to get enough stuff to start, but I still have more stuff to buy. At the national ops the guys I play with are on the green teams, so when I was shopping I bought everything tan. So now I can get an idea of what I really want and what would work well for me, and I can buy it with green in mind.

Might be hard to believe, but out of everything I bought, the item I was the most pleased with and thankful that I bought was the kneepads. I could quickly go to prone or kneeling without any pain on the knees. Just imagining not having them yesterday makes me shudder.

airsoft guns shoot those small plastic bb's?

does it feel like getting hit with a paintball or what.

Yes, they're plastic BB's. They come in varying weights, but .2g and .25g are the standards.

After having now played both, I'd have to say airsoft 'hurts' less than paintball. I got hit on top of the head (thought I was hiding completely behind the rock, oops) and you definately feel it. No mistaking it for anything else. But it wasn't bad enough where I instinctively felt the need to touch or rub the impact spot. The shooter was about 40-50ft away.

What's the range on the Sniper's in Airsoft?
Man, this shit is interesting.

I was told (I just asked) that a good gas/spring sniper rifle can go upwards of 300ft.

No full face protection? Anything happen if you catch some pellets in the mug? Can't imagine it would feel too good to take some off your teeth or down your throat if you were yelling something at the time. Hey, it can happen.....i've been playing paintball for years, all the way back to the time when people only used just goggles. I remember a time one of my buds caught a paintball off his front tooth as he stuck his head up over a parapet and the paint went sailing down his throat lol...almost choked the poor bastard.

Well...I think I know what you will be spending a good portion of next year's tax refund on.

P.S. Only take his sunscreen comments seriously if you live where he lives (Arizona in August = hot)

Nah you need sunscreen even if it isn't hot.

You can get sunburnt in the winter you know... the reason you generally don't is because you're all covered up.

Nope. A few people wear the full paintball style masks. Hell, some people only wear Oakley sunglasses.

Actually, my shopping list is about $800, so that's like 4 days of overtime after taxes. I'm pretty sure I can get that before tax time.

My goal is to have everything bought and broke in before the next Operation Lionclaw game, which is memorial day weekend 2007..

As far as sunscreen goes... you can get burnt even in the cold. It was warm, but we were in the mountains, so while it was 100+ in Phoenix, it was in the mid 80's where we were.

Eh, I work outside all the time w/o sunscreen in the NE (Greek complextion FTW!). However, whenever I am in AZ, I always need to throw some on if I am outside for more than 10 minutes, sun always felt stronger in AZ (and all of the SW) than it almost ever does up in the NE. .

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(djmtott @ Aug 28 2006, 01:24 PM)
I just don't spend time outside nearly as much as I used to. So now I burn pretty good.

From your pics, you do look to be on the more paler side of white.

P.S. That airsoft game did look pretty cool...looked more fun than paintball is...now if I can only switch my vote on that poll.

That's what getting married, having kids, having indoor jobs, and SWG will do to you.
