Is it just DC raidio stations?

I often wondered this because our stations are pretty controlled and money pays what is played around here in the DC area, but do you all have radio stations that still play the same shit from the 90's and rarely anything new. If it is new it's Greenday about 100 times a day?

I swear DC 101 plays three bands - Pearl Jam, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers

98 Rock - Actually plays some decent stuff, but if I hear AC/DC Back in Black one more time, I'm going to cry

I dove into Internet radio at work to try and find something and lo and behold there are other bands out there. Some good bands I've heard from the Internet that I have never heard of ....

Coheed and Cambria
Flyleaf
A couple of others I've never heard of.

What happened to the DC metro Area Radio? I lived there for years and loved the radio stations (love your show babe! ) You think you got it bad, Bufflao Radio sucks worse than our tax structure if you can believe that!

Basically the radio stations around here have gone the way of American Idol. It's either crappy bands that you'll never remember 6 months from now or some half assed rap song that is exactly like the all the others.

the radio station i listen to in daytona plays a lot of new bands, a LOT. i think flyleaf debuted on their station, and they're always bringing in new local bands to play on the air.

the one out here in cali has what they call new music mondays and 420 cagematch. on mondays, it is all new music from within the past 2-3 years, and every weekday at 4:20 pm, the cagematch pits two new artists against each other and callers decide which one they like better.

but DC is all corporate now anyway. z104 is mexican rap now i think, and 94 7 has redefined their belief of classic rock to the late 80s

Lol you haven't been in this area in a while....allow me to catch you up to speed.

99.1 WHFS - Now Hispanic station

Z104 - Now Classical

99.5 - Use to play decent stuff but are now turning into Hip Hop/R&B

DC 101 - Corporate and monopolized since 99.1 went under

98 Rock - The better of the stations music wise

yea, i haven't been in the area for radio for about two years. i knew one station had gone from popular rock to hispanic. forgot it was hfs, so no more HF-estival anymore i guess. kinda laughable, all of it, but pathetic at the same time. especially the hispanic conversions

why be under the spell of clear channel .. with the interent you can listen to almost any radio station or genre you want :)

i would imagine if you dug deep enough youd find that most ofthose stations are prob owned by the same company anyways ...

were really in the same boat here in slc theres the classic rock channel and the " alternative " rock channel ..unfortunatley the alt channel went from indie ownership to regional corporate ownership about 6 years ago ..although the djs and stuff are the same the musics pretty much a turd fest now

i just download my own crap and will occasionally venture out and find something on the web to listen to for a bit
