Games with an online component available

Can anyone help me out? I've been hearing about all these fun games with an online component.
I don't want to play another MMORPG, as I don't have the time right now. The only game I have ever really played, however, was SWG. So, I am lost.
Is there another fun game to play that has an online component to it? I need a PC game that doesn't require a heavy or steady investment of time. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I heard Empire at War is great, any others that you all play?

i still play republic commando sometimes, still havent beat the game its pretty fun...and you can play online like on a server v other players
