A woman with a big assed pointy sword? O_O
[/b]
Um yes.....a woman in a ninja type suit weilding a sword is sexy......hehe

btw a Katana is not a big ass pointy sword. It is only about 1.5m or so in length and comes to a curve on the backside away from the bladed edge instead of like a traditional longsword that has a double edge with a point at the top center.

besides I would more expect a traditional female shadow warrior to weild something a little less obvious then a "big ass pointy sword" since it would kinda give anything you were planning to do away at first glimpse. Something closer to maybe some throwing spikes or a fan type weapon. Neither of which are noticeable as weapons outright. Spikes to keep the long, flowing black hair in place and fans to keep you cooled off........noting intimidating about those until they are shown what they truely are to the intended mark.

1.8m actually, my blade is custom made for my advantage. People know katana's are shorter, thus tend to think it won't hit them and instead of taking two paces back, they do one. That leaves them within my range still. Once I'm within 3m, you have less than a second to parry or block... There is no dodge available at that range. And there is yet to wonder, what will come first the katana or the wakizashi. You might block one, but not the other.

How do you compensate for the extra .3m without unbalancing the cutting edge of the blade. Would seem like you would have to add .1m to the hilt and .2m to the end of the blade otherwise the center point would change to much and cause it to be off balance at the tip and that would not make it as smoothe weilding as it is in the natural stardard size.

ps. I still think it is ungainly and "off" to see a female weilding a sword of any form. Fans and smaller "punji" type sticks interwoven with the hair would seem to me to be more of a female look and be more deadly since it would be unexpected.

The range depends on the ability of the wielder. We can always fix distance with a few steps and depends if yer comfortable with your field. I feel quite comfortable within a 3m radius around me. Let's say is my easy zone. Anything outside of that is still strikable. It doesn't matter if my blade is short or long, my radius will still be the same. Even with my wakizashi which is 60cm.

There are many ways to get close, really fast. Every martial artist with a combat art should know this. One of the variations of the Kun-fu has a very neat way of approaching. Is like a dance similar to an illusion, the moment his opponent notice he was closer, it was to late to react or counter attack. I haven't experience it myself, but seen plenty of amateur vids about it.

Of course, I haven't considered obstacles... Let's say is a perfect world for me. ^_^

To use any pointy object is possible, but that's more for a ninja than a kendo student. ^_^ I do prefer kunai.
