Finding people from other games?

So far I've played on three different WoW servers, and on all three of them there have been people from WH that knew me/I knew them.

Latest example here, where I'm asking for herbs and someone is wondering what a fish wants with herbs. :P

What about other games? I know we have stickies that tell people where other people are playing, but I've never actively gone looking for them... do people run into each other a lot?

Sorry Ackis, I'm herb/alchy but I don't have the patience to farm that much fadeleaf/grave moss.
