Alright here is the skinny. I still have my old old comp that I bought for when SWG came out. My Brother In-law moved in with my wife and I and was wanting to get into EQ2 so I said sure you can use my old machine since Im still playing alot of Vanguard on my new one. I used to have a friend that was pro at updating and taking care of my issues with my computer and never really captialized on his knowledge to aid myself in this department. So Im going back to school in the summer and try and pick up some computer skills plus Im just bored :D

Anyway this old computer of mine has been upgraded some in the past few months for shits and grins. New video card even though its only a 256 as well as another Gig of RAM. Its no where close to the power of what Im using now but it should be running EQ2 somewhat stable. We tried setting EQ2 to Balanced at 1600x1200 and man was it choppy in certain spots. Mind you this is also the same comp I used for 2 months right after EQ2 launch and EQ2 ran fine with it then I upgraded. It did have a complete reformat a few weeks ago and Im certain some of my issues are related to drivers.

I know how to upgrade my sound card and graphics card with no problem but I am clueless how to upgrade the other items like chipset, motherboard and BIOS etc etc. Its not that I dont know how to tell they need to be upgraded I can do that with a program I have. But when I go to Intel for example and look them up I dont know which or what to download to update them since there are alwasy more then 2-3 options.

If I post my DXDIAG below could some whiz check Intel and what not for an d post a direct link to the driver I need? I know this doesnt help my learning of the situation but Im going to be rectifing that soon but my Brother In-law is foaming to get this thing working right. Maybe if I know what to look for with the links you can provide I can learn something.

I Have not Downloaded DirectX nor the Windows Service Pack 2 yet I am after the post so disrgard that. Maybe my old machine just blows goatrs but the Dude at GeekSquad I called as well as the guy from EQ2 Tech Support I talked to said its more then enough to run EQ2 above average but yet it doesnt. So please for pity sake help me :D

LOL you're married? poor bastard :P

You shouldn't have to worry about updating bios drivers and shit like that.

First step... go here and watch this:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4635233826986620052

It provides valuable advice.

It looks like you have the latest version of video card drivers, however EQ2 is very processor intensive.

Run msconfig and go to the startup tab and disable all the extra shit you find there.

Also, go to windowsupdate.com and get all the shit there that are updates (more for security purposes :P) after you install SP2.

Disable system restore... You can do that by right clicking on my computer, going to properties, and then the system restore tab.

Defrag you hard disks if you haven't done so (my computer, right click on hard drive, go to tools and then defragment option).

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/scripts-df...x?DwnldID=11454

That will update inf files in windows... not sure if you need it actually... it's based off of chipset and I don't know which one you have :P Go here to find out:
http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/cs-009245.htm

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaa_...b/cs-009340.htm

Try that as well... I'm assuming you're using RAID. It all depends on chipset again.

Here's the non-raid version:
http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaa/

And shit I dunno what else to say :P

Oh yah I've been out of the tech business for a while... lol there's some others here that will be able to help you a lot more (and they're more knowledgeable)

No Problem man... did everything you suggested so far except defrag.... have to redownload EQ2 for him and then I will do it. Thanks a bunch let you know how it works.

DirectX Version: DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0810)

Aren't we on version 9.0c? That could be a big problem...

basically from what i can see, your vid card isnt sufficient enough to run at that high a res. try lowering it

your cpu might be getting throttled as well.....i have an old athlon xp barton and when in eq2 its on 100% load all the time

Poor bastard? More like poor woman.

If he wants his computer to run faster, he should take it outside and wash the sludge out of it with a garden hose. Or just stop trying to run games at 1600x1200. Dumbass probably has his AA and AF cranked.

EQ2 is CPU intensive, not GPU intensive... I have a 6600 GT and when I switched back to my FX5600 I didn't notice any difference.

Knowing Huntress he's got the setting maxed, which would still bog the GPU.

Dont make me throttle you! I lowered the res and it helped... but I remember running it in 1600x1200 at launch. AA and AF are not maxed either so /tounge. The gardenhose worked though that was a great suggestion... ass! <3
