OK, due to popular demand and threats from Rankin, I've reinstalled the Chat feature. I honestly thought it was a useless component to the site, cause I thought nobody used it. Apparently I was wrong 
There's a direct link to the Chatroom in the upper right corner of the site, on the section that has the links to Blogs, Gallery, Help, Search, etc. There should be a new option there called Chat. Also, at the very bottom of the forum index in the Statistics there is a section that tells you who is in chat at the moment. From here, you can also launch the chat via a new window or a popup. The only other thing I have to figure out is how to get those Chat statistics to show up on the main portal page as well.
You do NOT need to re-register to use the chat. It is tied in directly to your forum account, so just log in with your forum username and password. Happy chatting!
