CD BURNING NOOB

Ok so yeah I finally have some DvD'rs and I want to burn my anime to them so I can watch them in my dvd player. How should I go about this? I have the full version to nero 7 ultra edition and the files are in .avi format. Can I just choose video cd and select the files and they'll work right?

buy a divx dvd player then just burn everything as data disc and the player will play it
