Its like the Italian version of the Tour de France, a three week bike race. This year's edition starts somewhere in Belgium, stays there for a couple days, then flies the whole lot of 'em (nearly 200 riders) south into mainland Italy for the bulk of the rest of the race. Not that I suspect you have an insatiable latent interest in bike racing, but if it piques anything and you want to give your knowledge of Italian a run for the money, pick up the sports daily printed on obnoxious pink paper, la Gazzetta dello Sport. They sponsor the race itself, and the race leader's jersey is the same color pink (similar story behind why the Tour de France's race leader's jersey is yellow).

If I'm not mistaken (my Italian ain't so great :p), the race won't reach your neck of the woods for a week or two, but figured I'd just ask if you knew any better directly :) I'm not sure I'd bother driving to see multiple days worth of the Giro, but if its passing down nearby roads, I'd definitely grab a couple bottles of vino and a picnic and just go hang out at the side of the road to watch it all zip past.
