So, some of you may know and most of you don't care my grandmother passed away last month.

Each year we got money out of her estate (she had allzheimers) for Christmas and birthday... this year we are getting the Christmas money however it's going to be the last time we get it. I could blow the money on something stupid, however I want something that I will keep, and be able to remember her and my grandfather by.

Now, the type of person I am, the only artwork I am familiar with is me peeing in the snow. I don't think that's something I want however :P

Could anyone offer suggestions? My walls a pretty bare at my house so I was thinking a painting of sorts. I looked at some oil paintings and they seemed nice, however I don't want to limit myself.

Any help would be appreciated.

What kind of things do you want to stare at?

Modern, or old?

I have no idea... that's the problem. Kinda after people to throw up examples of stuff. (oh and the real answer to your question is boobies :P)

Do not buy shitty couch-art.
Go to a local gallery. A real one, not some chain-o-galleries that stocks the corporate version of what is basically shitty couch-art. See if anything strikes your fancy. Expect to spend somewhere in the range of $500-$5000 for something that approaches 'wall covering' size. Pay attention to the frame its in also.

Taste is up to you, we can't tell you what you like :P Friday nights are the traditional 'opening night' for galleries if you're interested in hanging out with the arts crowd, or asking questions of those more knowledgeable about what's on the walls than the poor shmuck that holds down the fort during the rest of the week.

Thanks for the comments... I think I want a painting. The only kind I've seen are oil paintings lol

And I'm not sure if I want to "hang" with the art crowd. I'm more of a "beer and steak" crowd kinda guy. lol

Its worth hanging long enough to ask some questions of folks if you're really not sure what you want/want to do though. Beer and steak, wine and cheese, whatever, just find someone willing to talk about their stuff a bit. :) Check the local papers for gallery openings, I'm sure Edmonton has some kinda arts district, just roam around down there. :)

I looked at your stuff Merlyn, and there's some that I actually like... But you're in Europe and I'm in Canada. :(
