I mean, is there a dedicated singleplayer mode, like in previous versions, or do I HAVE to host a server with just me and bots?

bingo...i only remember single player only..like missions and stuff in condition zero..

or i could be wrong

There is no single player mode in CSS, you have to host a server with bots if you want it to yourself.
