I would like to hear from those of you who have made it in to BETA. What do you like/hate about it? How is the gameplay fro your perspective? Basically a small review up to your "level".
Here is my brief thoughts on it........
1. Movement
Movement is clunky at best. It uses a point and click movement system and so far I have found no way to change it. Typical MMO's (atleast that I have played) use the movement keys or the WASD keys. With this gae you point where you want to go and then your toon moves to that spot. Very irritating.
2. Specials and attacks.
Like WoW and LotRo you have to train your skills. Not sure at what point you get them but somewhere along the lines I went to this Kung Fu guy and he offered to train me. Training consists on standing in front of a spike pillar and trying to get a little ball to land in the red area scoring a "strike". Every "strike" gets you a little light lit up and when it is full you gain the lvl of that skill. For instance......I was tringin my Kung Fu up and using the basic strike I got lvl 1, then lvl 2, then lvl 3 at which point it stopped and said I had trained all I could. After gaining a few lvls I went back and tried again and it started me out at lvl 1 again.
Anyways, once you train the skill you can begin using it in combat along with another special (if you have gotten enough points in to the line to use a special...will explain later). Problem is that trying to use a special is extremely irritating. Your basic attack cycles to fast to get your special to fire off and so far I have seen no way to enque the attack, meaning you have to sit and spam the specials key and hope that it lights up and fires off the special.
Each time you use your basic attack or specials a little red line at the bottom of them starts to fill up, when it is full you go to the next lvl of it (called something else but can't remember). It is super easy to get your basic attack bar filled up but trying to get the specials bar filled up even slightly is a nightmare.
Each lvl you gain these points (1 per lvl best I can tell) that you can spend in a discipline like Kung Fu, Daggers, Polearms, spears.....ect ect, up to lvl 20 per skill. Once you get these skilled up a little you will start getting specials to use (best I can tell anyways). You get these specials from the Kung Fu trainer and they are automatically able to use skills meaining no more pounding on the spiked pillar to skill it up where you can use it.
3. Quests....or lack thereof
I have only managed to find one quest up to about lvl 10 or so. I am guessing it is some kind of heratige type thing since it has led me to becoming a disciple of the heavely demons clan. This quest line is almost absurd though. To begin with you talk to a drunk guy wo wants to tell you a story but wants you to bring him liquor first, so you go get the liquor then he tells you a piece of a story stopping in the middle. Trying to get him to go any further only has him telling you he is tired. So you go out and lvl up a bit then come back to him. Suprise suprise he wants you to get him more liquor (expensive as hell btw) so off you go to get more booze for the fat drunk. He finishes the story then send you to a girl. Talk to the girl and listen while she calls you all kinds of names then do a favor for her. After you do te favor it gets tricky. She wants you to repeat a rule to her which you have to type out perfectly including punctuation otherwise she calls you more names (took a few tries to get this rigt cause I had no clue about the punctuation). Run a few more errands around town and go out and talk to her again. She calls you mroe names and sends you to kill some kids (real nice lady there btw) and then wants you to repeat the second rule to her (this is the tricky part). You type out the rule including punctuation and she proceeds to call you more names and fails you on the quest. After half a dozen or more tries, including chicken pecking out the rule, I started asking for assistance on it (will put community in a section in a minute). After about 10mins of no assistance from anyone I try again and forgot, by accident. to put the punctuation at the end and I passed. Apparently she doesn't want punctuation ont he second rule even though she demads it on the first rule. This quest is buggy and extremely boring and it is the only quest I have found.........not to mention you get more xp for your time killing crap then you do from doing a quest.
4. Community
Community is great.......if you want to be left alone, not bothered or if you know everyting. Noone helps anyone out. You could ask for hours trying to get assistance from someone and get nothing. Even tells go unanswered. Not sure if it is the fact that there are a lot of asians on there and they have some superiority complex (or just don't understand a daned bit of english) or if it is the problem that the chat system is the biggest pain in the ass thing to use I have ever seen. The community in this game gets an F for sucking so badly.
And my favorite thing. When you are talking to an NPC you get a box that pops up showing thier picture and dialog (takes up the whole screen) this, however, does NOT make you immune to attacks. Several times I was chatting away with an NPC to update the one boring quest, only to finish talking and see my life at 5% because some mob has been beating on me for 5mins straight. There is no way to tell if you are being hit since your lifebar does not show up in the dialog screen......irritating as hell.
Overall if I had to rate this game I would give it prolly a 5 out of 10. Not a bad game, graphically it is very nice and there are certain things that although mundane are kinda interesting, but as a whole I would only play this game if it cost less then 10$ month and only as a second game to take away boredom from a primary MMO. Not that bad but not that fun either.........
Now let me hear what some of you who have played think about it. I just started last night so I am sure some of you are much higher lvl then I am and have seen more.
