That's the problem, SOE or SCE whatever, is giving the customer what SCE wants not what the customer wants. I'll take less advanced, cheaper cost, and good gaming over more advanced tech, higher prices, and crap game play that just gives you eye candy.

in response to bananamans last post to me

i dont care what YOU want, i care what I want

be careful man, you are starting to sound like the SWG team....

The only thing thats going to make me want to buy a PS3 is a lower price point. Tell me this and that about what the PS3 has, blue-ray blah blah blah, but personally i'm not buying into it at $600. It's just a few steps outside of what i'm honestly willing to pay.

No, the fact is guys this feedback has been great, and remember this console has to satisfy a world population not just the Wanderhomies forum. I agree the price is high, but with the equipment supplied you can't really grumble.

As I have stated before I did not design or engineer this console, but it is my job to highlight its positives, and thats what I get paid for at the end of the day. Sony feels that the "majority" of gamers want a HES, and the old argument that their will be no games doesn't hold up.

We have sent over 100,000 Dev Consoles to Developers World Wide, with the features and functionality the PS3 offers games will come quick and fast.

Thanks guys I don't need anymore feedback. You've been great.

Edit: The SWG part I was joking, btw

While as a "majority" of gamers want a HES as well as game system, they probably want one that will be good at being an HES, and something that will be good at being a game system. Chances are, they would rather buy two seperate units that are great at their role, as opposed to one system that is good at one thing, but not another, yet still have to pay for the other in the total price. Know what I mean?

Trust me the reason its $600 is because its good at both, The overall research shows we are on the right path here.

well i hope the research is right and it goes well for ya so you can give us all some freebies :D

Great...so how many gamers have televisions to take advantage of 1080p of blue-ray? As far as I know only the brand new systems (came out like 2 months ago) in the DLP and rear projection can even do 1080 on their screen.

So, why should we buy an HES system that we can't display, for that price, all assuming that the HES system will actually be good unlike previous attempts?

Is that the same research that brought us the NGE?

(Just bustin your chops because I can :P )

Ever heard of planning for the future?
[/b]

Okay, yes, the future...because tons of gamers have sets that take advantage of the 480p. /sarcasm off

You (the Sony "you", not you banana) are pushing out a next gen console and telling folks to buy it, that's fine, but you are also telling them they need to buy a brand new, top of the line TV as well? Then, having to buy all of this new technology is promoted as a bargain?!?!?!?

That's not future planning, that's just nuts.

Ever heard of business? C'mon we are in the business of making profits every company is. Yes, We are interested in providing a great product and service to our customers, but we must please our shareholders too, whilst reataining a profit to pay for R&D, Developement, and my job.

Unlike Nintendo, or Microsoft, we have many parts of the Company that depend on the sales of paticular products.

That's great and all, but your competitiors are doing a much better job of selling their product without "forcing" people to upgrade everything.

Couple on top of the fact that, I don't know where you are, but here, the economy ain't the best right now, a luxury such as upgrading my entire entertainment cabinet looks a lot less likely than it did about 4-5 years ago.

Again, why pay that much for stuff, that folks don't need, folks can't use, and want but probably won't be able to afford.

Banana, please don't look at this as an angry diatribe. It is good to hear what the reasoning for the PS3 is from someone who knows.

I don't, and I agree the price is relatively high, but don't think I haven't voiced my concerns to my boss before. Blame the guys in Japan and China. Thanks for the input Fluffy, its always good to get the opinion of the consumer.

I still think it will sell well, because of two things:

1. Strong Growth in Far East.
2. The amount of high end technology thats inside it.

If it dosen't sell well, then we got all wrong, but until November am optimistic.

Don't get me wrong, it will sell. Especially because for both reasons you mentioned, I just don't think it will sell very well, and not well enough to be #1...at least not in the US.

So I want you guys to do some work for me, How do you percieve the Sony Computer Entertainment, not SOE , lol.

Why do you like, or dislike the Playstation series?

What games do you love the most on the platform?

What would make you buy a PS3?

Class it as informal Market Research.
[/b]

My biggest gripe with SCE(A) and, unfortunately, all of the 'hardware' divisions of Sony, is that they use CHEAPASS lasers. I've been a Sony customer since... 1985 I wanna say? going on 21 years now. Every Sony CD player or DVD player (or, in fact, Playstation) I've owned has had laser issues. I loved my original CDP-65 (go look that up in the database, lol) cd player so much, I took it into the shop on four occasions just to get the laser swapped out. Shame I can't do that with my now-fried PS2. It'll run OLD games still, but anything newer (Gran Turismo 3 will run, Gran Turismo 4 .. won't, nor will GTA:San Andreas, kinda gave up after that). To sum that up, I dislike the unreliable hardware. Give me robust shit that doesn't break for a few bucks more.

I dig the Gran Turismo series. Most other driving games give me a headache. That said, the Grand Theft Auto series is worth the time as well (though its way easier aiming with a mouse on the PC).

What would make me buy a PS3? Assurances that the laser and spinny bits didn't suck, and a warranty that didn't suck as proof.
