Just wanted to get an idea of what you people would/wouldn't like about a PvP orientated MMO.
[/b]
hardcore to the limit and real (like the looted corpses thing)

but it would have to be a semi easy mmo to get the items , something that would take a few days /week to get all your shit back if it took months then no :P

Agreed, I personally detest the whole loot whore mentality with most MMO these days.

Thats pretty much what is wrong with wow, in order to actually be succesful in pvp, high end raid items are a neccesity. I was in vodka, onc eof the best guilds on any server and it just was such a waste of time, spending 5-8 hours a night raiding.

i chose carebear responses but thats because i treasure my hard won items and money lol, as for a pvp switch i find games that have a pvp switch are more fun.

Personally i was pretty much always overt in swg because i wanted to pvp but like if i want to do something else for a while id turn off the pvp switch, although when i was a jedi and perma-overt i still liked that people had to declare to fight me even though i didnt care that i was perma overt, wierd.

As for hardcore, id rather have my items disabled than have another player take them from lol.

I can understand that mate, but what if items were not the be all and end all of the game? What if they didn't actually matter that much? Let's say you died, somebody looted your entire corpse, but you can go out and buy another set of equipment for the sake of a few hours gaming to make the cash?

I intend to refine this poll a few times over the next couple of weeks, I'm experimenting to see if it's possible to get people to agree on certain things.

agree with isildur.. also lets just keep SWG in mind... so stupid coded shit and so easy to exploit games are just not worth these features... however i liked having that in EvE cause that made the 0.0 space really intressting and thrilling. But in Eve i always felt more safe against cheaters and exploiters then in other games...
You know the exploiter scene is what makes all these features just anoying cause you cant be always sure if you got cheated or not and then loosing something where you spend hours, days or even weeks on just makes a game unfun.. and games should remain fun somewhere and not a pure waste of time... there is simply no real fair play for some MMO or lets say Multiplayer ppl in general and they will just stay up to date with the hacking scene to get the best of the best in any mmo or mp game... and you have exploiters in every damn game meanwhile.. genre doesnt even matter ... just go apply to one of the big exploiter pages and get your cheats and hacks.. thats just the bad side of electronic sportsman ship... thats why electronic sports will never be that big in future imo ... and this is also just normal for the worlds of zeros and ones..

to be honest i think theres needs to be the right amount of balance between pvp penalties and total carbearness. You need it so there is enough incentive to pvp and not care too much about losing all your items but not so that it becomes a total zergfest like in wow.

Personally, i hate time sinks in games...going to collect my corpse after i die in wow is usually what makes me /quit but i cant stand zerg fests because you cant really tell whats going on. Something simmilar to pre-cu such as when you die all your armor decays etc.

But no, i spend alot of time playin mmos without wasting half my life with too severe pvp penalties.

I think more people will pvp in a game if there are less penalties otherwise people are going to hesitate to fight.

Although it might be "hardcore" to be able to loot all the items off someone id rather there was another 5 people to pvp against that would not have if they thought all their items were gonna get stolen on death.

I am all for penalties, I really think the best MMORPG to come will be the one which simulates life as close as possible, however there are issues to be settled 1st.

1- Latency
2- Game play mechanics (allowing player skill to be more important however not making it eye-hand coordination only.) Swg pre-cu loot items and combat system were pretty much ok other than unlimited dots.
3- Exploits, pulling plugs, gate hopping should be addressed at utmost importance. Frustaration from game mechanics should be removed.
4- To give a meaning to pvp other than just killing ppl, like i always say give freedom to players but then again punish them for killing others, just its like in RL. Jumpgate had a nice system regarding that, I remember only being able to land to pirate stations w/o getting all my armor removed.
5- Ban all carebears at 1st sight of whining.:P

voted no on the pvp switch ...would have voted yes before playing eq2 but being perma overt to the other side has made the game 100 times more fun ...even if it has frustrated the shit out of me occasionally

and i was never a big pvper ..i pvpd but never considered it my focus

So... The majority of people want to keep their items upon death, yet the same majority wants lootable corpses....

How does that make sense?

the choice is ALL player items left on corpse

big difference between some random item and everything you own

People are greedy. Of course you want to gain something, but who really WANTS to lose something?

imagine being ganked and losing that epic weapon you just got after spending months trying to get it.

I think player corpses should be lootable, but it should be generated stuff that you loot, not things from the player themself.

Corpse camping could clean you out!
Camp till naked /FTW!!!

I started out on the most hardcore PvP game out there....Runescape :P

Heh, in the game, if you get attacked and die you lose all but your most valuable three items. If you attack someone and die you lose all items. But in the game it wasn't too hard to get items back, and it was a player driven economy moreso than looting stuff.

P.S. I don't think it means that people want to keep items, but loot others. I read it as if you die you lose everything on you. I wouldn't want that, but I would want lootable courpses to where one could take several/lots/some of their victims items.

no PvP switch, always on. yes leave items on the corpse. they don't magically get recreated with your body or spirit. no free player-looting of corpses of items that are tied to your character, soulbound etc. but stuff in your pockets that haven't been used yet sure
