I agree with gomi, i will hang onto XP professional as long as I can or when it seems it is unusable anymore. If I get it bundled with a laptop (something i am looking for now) then thats fine. but I wont convert my home PC to it even though it can handle the premier version of vista.

I'll wait to the first service pack and see what happens. As of right now, there's no point, if Microsoft wanted people to start using Vista, they should have started to phase out XP a long time ago.

Vista SP1 is currently looking for beta testers, and is expected to be dished out in the second half of 2007

Where is Gomi's post?!

I'm Kerri on this ^_^

I have Vista sitting on a dvd from MSDN. Until I get a new computer that can handle it functionally I'm not in any hurry. I also will wait till my work applications are certified for it too.

or till i get a cracked copy

I got business vista free with my university. Its just a fancy version of xp if you ask me, other than that i cant see much added functionality.

Supposedly I'm supposed to get it for free since I bought a new computer in December. If I can download it without installing it I'll just burn it for later on. If not, then I'll really have to think about it.

I ran Vista for a few months and to put it simply it brings nothing to the table.

i can get it free and legit through uni as well but i also dont have 984578934795793459848975gb free just to install an OS.

if i did though, i would also wait till the security loopholes that are undoubtedly going to arise in the next few months get fixed

My answer is not on there:

"As of now Vista's secruity and hardware handling is sooooooooo bad that I am switching to a Mac within the year"

Might be. I never, ever, thought I would even consider a Mac until I saw Vista. Now, SP1 might salvage it, and I will wait and make a decision till then.

Again, this is for a home computer, not talking about work/enterprise solutions. That's a different arguement, we will probably go to Vista at work and leave it disconnected from the Internet on our private servers.
