<strike>Just thought of something weird. How do I know if my webserver would support Joomla or one of these other cool programs?

I have the MySQL's. I just have no clue about the other aspects. I went snooping around the server owners, but nothing stands out. I have the basic plan of Go Daddy.</strike>

Bah. I just figured this out. I'm crossing my fingers that they'll somehow let me transfer over to a Linux server for free or very cheaply.

Joomla can be installed on both linux and windows servers, you just gotta download the right package from their site. MySQL is not OS-dependant. MySQL is a necessity in Windows AND Linux/Unix servers

No according to Joomla I had to be able to run PHP which is only supported on Godaddy's Linux servers.

wtf, how the hell can they not support php on their Windows servers? its like riding a bike without a steering wheel.....

If they tell you that you'll have to buy another package for linux, tell them to F themselves. next time you decide to buy web hosting, come to me, and i'll point you in the right direction ;)

Actually (now get this)

I had gotten hosting services and they gave me a domain for $3 or something for the first year because I got the hosting services. Since it was cheap enough, I got the domain for another year ($8 or something). Because I paid for another year, I got a free hosting service. So I used that to create a Linux server. Canceled the Windows one, and transferred my domain to the new server.

Also, if you know a decent hosting service that's abou the same price (and I don't have to pay all at once - you know I'm too poor for that) let me know. I have a month free with them on my hosting.

how much is it a month after the first year?
[/b]

same price. It's always (until they change their prices) $4 a month. But I don't have to pay it for a year in advance, it's always just a monthly cost.

gah, the one i use for the valinor site, which is like $2 a month, boosted their prices for new customers...the one i use for my personal site is yearly...this site that charges like $1.95 a month for pretty nice hosting has horrible customer reviews....

I used to use SiteFlip. It was great, but its yearly, but less than $1 a month

Here's the yearly siteflip site: http://www.siteflip.com/specials/fmh101b.html
Here's the monthly but not as reliable host: http://www.lowbudgethost.com/plans.shtml

I suggest emailing them and confirming that their hosting services are compatible with joomla

SQL injection is a way of hacking vulnerable MySQL databases
