Watchmen Trailer

Looks pretty cool

but

it wouldn't be the first cool looking trailer for a movie that turned out to be a piece of shit.

We'll see. Everything I've heard about this move tells me they are at least trying to do it right. So I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I've also read that they shot the pirate story, but had to cut it out for time. The current run of the film is over 3 hours, and WB wants 2:30 so more stuff will probably go.

Supposedly they changed the ending too. I've read three different script adaptations for Watchmen and every one changed the ending. No love for the giant alien squid, I guess  I personally thought the squid was perfect. I was like "whoa, wtf?" when I first read it.

So like I said before. We'll see.

Just an FYI, the director of this is the same director as 300. Man seems to like the graphic novel.

Cautiously looking forward to this. Unfortunately this is one of those books that has such a rabid fanbase (think LotR, Harry Potter, etc) that no matter how good the movie is, the fanboys will hate it because of some mundane detail that was not right.

Very curious about how they will end it. Wasn't the original series left extremely open-ended?

I loved the ambiguity of the original ending.

And I think you're right about the fanboys. A lot of them will be beholden to the intricate minutiae of the text, and fail to see the bigger ideas on which the story is based.

But personally, I think it's too late to do a faithful, meaningful adaptation of Watchmen. When it came out, it turned the comic book genre on its head. But the genre has stayed on it's head ever since. Watchmen became the norm, and we are still very much in that world, even 20 years later. We are still doing the dark, hyper-realistic, post-modern deconstruction thing. It's run its course.

Something else needs to come and turn Watchmen on its head. But until then, I'm going to kick back and enjoy this movie.

That's strange. I mean, I wasn't really into that stuff around then. One of my friends was a huge collector of Marvel comics, so I know a little about some of those lines. During the late 80's I was more concerned about getting laid for the first time than I was about comics.

There was a close to the story.

I didn't read every chapter (wasn't mine, was a friend's back in some pre-high school days), and haven't gotten back into it ever. I know the basic storyline, but it has been a LONG time since knowing the details.

Not going to try to re-read it either, I find almost any movie is better when you do NOT read the book that it came from.

I don't know this story at all. I saw the preview though with Batman. I've always been more of a Marvel than a DC fan.

Looks retarded....
I remember it showing at the midnight batman premiere and all the nerds stood up and started cheering....the same people who wore joker costumes/shirts and batman gear.

fucking dumb
