Was the Death Star Attack an Inside Job?

How the plans of the Original Death Star fell into the Rebels hands.....

I don't remember which world it was, but I do remember some of the details.

Lord Vader was in charge of the Imperial Blockade Fleet.

Leia Organa using her Counselor status flew through the blockade and received a transmission from 'Rebel" spies.

The Emperor always planned on the first Death Star being destroyed. He ensured that all of the Empire's most powerful individuals were present. His greatest political rival was Grand Moff Tarkin, the military was mostly controlled by General Tagge and Admiral Motti. These three men were placed in charge of the first Death Star as a triumpherant. Lord Vader was sent to keep an eye on them, or so he thought. The Emperor hoped Vader would die on the Death Star as well. The Emperor knew about Luke, he knew the first Death Star would flush out the last of the Jedi. He had foreseen that Luke would be a greater Sith than even Vader if he could be turned.

To this end the Emperor placed one of his most trusted agents into a Rebel cell, Mara Jade. It was Mara's group that stole the data of the first Death Star. It was her group that transmitted that data to Tantive IV while it was in orbit. The transmission was detected, Lord Vader was dispatched to capture it (mostly just to keep him busy). Mara revealed her true nature by turning on her fellow rebels and taking command of the Stormtrooper dispatch that had been chasing them for hours after the message was sent. No Rebel survived from that group, they couldn't allow anyone to, to let the general populace or the Alliance learn that the Emperor had other apprentices wasn't something Palpatine wanted.

The Emperor's plan unfolded:

1. Grand Moff Tarkin was killed. He was overconfident and chose not to launch his fighters. He paid the ultimate price. This removed the largest polical opponent from the galaxy, noone else in the Empire had the clout left to challenge the Emperor.

2. General Tagge and Admiral Motti were both killed, along with the top 1% of Imperial Officers. This created the power vacuum the Emperor needed to institute his Grand Admirals, rather than following the normal chain of command. Each of the Grand Admirals was personally selected by the Emperor, and each also was an enemy of the others, so as they could not gain enough power to overthrow the Emperor individually.

3. Obi Wan Kenobi reappeared in an effort to save the alliance, he made the ultimate sacrifice. His death ensured that Luke would not know about his past.

4. Alderaan was destroyed. Bail Organa for a long time had been part of the Rebel Alliance. This left only two of the Alliance triumperant alive. Garm Bel Iblis and Mon Mothma did not like one another, Bail had always been the mediating influence between them. With him dead, Garm would disappear for almost a decade before returning when the galaxy would need him most, when Grand Admiral Thrawn would appear. As a result the Alliance loses valuable experience, contacts and even fighting forces, it is weakened. Bail had helped Yoda escape death on Coruscant, the Emperor longed for vengeance and it was delivered in his name even though his hand was not on the trigger.

5. Luke Skywalker appears on the galactic scene. Revealing the son of Anakin at long last, the last of the Jedi. At long last the Emperor would have his revenge.

6. The one fatal flaw of the Emperor's plan was that Lord Vader survived. By now Vader was becoming to strong in the force. He was a grave threat to the Emperor's plans. This was not the first attempt at removing Vader, even as at Bespin it wasn't the first time Vader had suggested rebellion against the Emperor.
