Keep forgeting to mention this. It doesn't seem to have made a lot of headlines.

J.J. Abrams, producer of hit shows Lost and Alias, as well as director of the upcoming Paramount film "Mission: Impossible III," is slated to produce and possibly direct the next Star Trek feature, according to today's Daily Variety and sources at Paramount Pictures. There is no title as yet for the new movie, but it will be the eleventh in the franchise. (Until a title is selected, we will usually refer to the project as simply "Star Trek XI.")
Although there isn't an official Paramount press release announcing the movie, it is a confirmed project under development with a 2008 release date targeted. Word about the Abrams project surfaced this morning (April 21) in the daily trade paper. He will be writing the script with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who penned "M:i:III."

Just seen the original date too. I only heard of it from the poster image. I must be outta touch.
May feature Kirk in Starfleet Academy times. Still Abrams may make it a good film. :unsure:

The new trek movie is going to suck. been following it since announcement. It will feature a young kirk and spock in the academy days. Most likely the highlight of the movie will be Kirk "beating" the Kobayashi Maru simulation. Unless Rick Berman is removed from the Star Trek helm, the franchise will go to hell. You have thousands of fans worldwide begging for the franchise to move "forward." Trek is about moving into the future, not going back to the past like this movie and Enterprise did. If the franchise's next series revolved around the collapse of the federation and a full scale civil war breaking out in the alpha and beta quadrants, there would be a huge resurgance in the fanbase.

But rick berman sucks dick.
 
I read Berman wasn't involved in this film? Are they going to make more series or not yet.

Have you played Starfleet Academy the game? That was pretty cool. Had real live scenes with some of the actors in it too. Featured a bunch of cadets trying the Kobayashi Maru. B)
Some of the games have been good and some crap. Legacy was ok-ish.

Star Trek makes me sleepy -_-

Needs more peeps running around going "blast 'em!" and definitely more muppets. ^_^
 
i agree with stavrose pretty much on everything he said....

on a side note, since the first season, lost has really sucked . i hope it gets cancelled

Was 1 of my fave games. Went and modded it up with some cool textures etc.
I liked Final Unity too cos you could beam down etc.

You should try a demo of Star Trek Legacy. It's not too bad and if you can mod it too. Reminded me of Bridge Commander a bit.

A new ST film will be cool
24 in the 3rd seasons kinds sucks.

i know that. i'm just saying that the plot to XI is very similar to that of the link i posted. Mem alpha and Mem beta have been on my bookmarks for a loooong time :)

After months of speculation on the internet, it has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that J.J. Abrams, the creator of the hit ABC dramas "Lost" and "Alias," will indeed be directing the first movie in Paramount Pictures' relaunch of Gene Rodenberry's Star Trek movie franchise.

The 11th installment of the series will actually be a prequel to the original television series and the first movie, as it chronicles the first meeting of a young James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock at Starfleet Academy and their first space mission.

Although Abrams had been committed to produce the movie for a number of months, it was finally confirmed that he would also direct it. Look for more announcements in the next few months as he starts casting.
