You need to be granted permission to take time off without pay?

My company does that...if the time leaving exceeds vacation accumulated or....taking time off with no vacation time accumulated, you may take leave without pay.

Did you mean that they would grant you time to take off with pay? It goes without saying that when you take time off from your job you are not paid. :P

... Anyway if you want to see your family go for it Seren.

Chocolate Chip and you'll like it!

I gets 4 weeks vacation, diversity day, (up to 12 sick days) and government holidays off in a year. :P

I get to choose for leave without pay too, if I need extra time, beyond that. *giggle*

Do I get a cookiee too :P

Seren 5 years is quite a while, go back and see your family... is this your family back in the UK i assume?

Ya back home in UK, i will not be given an option here, i think i will have to resign before they let me go, jesus ive only been with the company for 6 years ffs, Im begining to wonder if this isnt a personal attack :/

They blatently said "Hey if ya wanna leave for a while feel free!". I would take that offensivly. Like a hint your not wanted. Thats just my self concious ass though. Personally leave w/o pay is like saying. Yeah you can quit but when you come back you can have your job back.

So do you not have any Holiday time coming to you? You can go where you want on paid break.
Or can you only take some and not enough for the visit. How long do you want to stay over?

Maybe you need to explain your work entitlement in your company.

I get 4 weeks paid holiday a year, plus bank holidays, also working at weekends i.e overtime, I gain extra days off. I also get 3 months critical sick leave on full pay, and 12 months of critical sick leave on half pay.

My vaction time is accrued each pay period, vaction time and sick time are considered the same, only 4 call out days allowed each year, by the time I need to go i would have 36hrs of time saved up I need 72hours , will be over in UK for 9 days . They want me to unbook my flight, my hotel and scheduel it all for later in the year, I stand to lose money, then pay more for a flight later in the year if i do this. I live paycheck to paycheck, the only reason i was able to book the flight when i did was because of tax refund :/ If i had booked the flight in the time period between June and October, the price is double.
/shrugs

Oh i edited my first post on this subject I had typed would instead of wont..sorry :(

 Sounds unfair...

5 weeks vacation, 3 weeks sick time, 1.5 weeks personal time, 13 paid holidays. Oh, I have short- and long-term disability that would pay me on top of any sick time I have accrued. If I break my leg, I'll be rich.
