These calls are very annoying and we have gotten hundreds of them this campaign season from all parties. I dont mind so much if they actuly call but to have a machine call us and play a recorded message 5 times a day gets old very fast. We are ont he do not call list but of course politicians made themselves exempt from it and can get away wi th this legally. I say ban all prerecorded automated phone calls to people regardless of if it is sales or politics or somebody asking for donations (though they at least are usaly on the other end of the line)

I hate these stupid freaking calls. It's not like they tell you what their stands are - they're just telling you to not vote for the other candidate.

I keep getting pre-recorded calls supporting Hilary Clinton, all with caller ID masked. What a waste of time. I can't even vote, you crusty old bitch.

FWIW, these would be illegal in Canada. We still got the calls there, but they had to be real people who didn't mask their callback. At least then I could tell them where to stick their phone.

I never get the pre-recorded messages.....lol. I do however get door to door campaigners which is always a lot of fun. I usually greet the good candidates and grill the bad ones before I laugh and tell them to get the hell off my porch

Yeah they pretty much always mask there calls here to. I havent actuyl gotten any for Hillary yet, the last one I had today was Rudy Giulanni about 20 minutes ago, yesterday I got one from Laura Bush and another from John Murtha and the usaly ones from Chris Murphy, Joe Liberman, Ned Lamont, and Nancy Johnson.

I think Ive gotten more from Chris Murphy than anyone that guys been having them call for almost 2 years complaining about his rival.

I get robots calling me at home and on my cell phone. I just hang up. Since I have caller ID on my cell, I dont answer for numbers I don't recognize (if it's important, they'll leave a message).

I also get knocks on my door from people running for city council. If they come to my door, answer my questions honestly and ask for my vote, I'm very likely to vote for them. Personal contact goes a long way for me. (Last time I got to treat a Kennedy to tea as we talked about a parking garage for a nearby high school. It was surreal).

I love screaming at the ones with real people talking, I'm not sure but I think I've made a couple cry.

Political calls fall under what they call "Franking". Politicians discovered that they can reach more people for less money with the phone calls over mailing lists.

It's a huge business with some companies only operating every 2 years during elections. A presidential election is worth millions to these companies. Normal charge per call is 5-7 cents and the actual cost is a fraction of a penny.

I refuse any pre-recorded phone calls... period.

If you don't have the time to have a live person talk to me then I don't have the time to listen to a machine.

Gomi + Phones = Scary, scary shit.

I have a no soliciting sign in my lawn and still they come and bother. So I greet them with my katana in hand.
It actually depends in the mood, if I want to have fun with them. I just annoy them until they hang up or leave my property. If I'm not in the mood, the katana is the way to go.

I haven't gotten a call. Whether it's because my number is registered on the Federal "do not call" list, or because I don't answer the phone from a masked caller ID, I don't know.

However, I did hear a report on the radio that the practice actually did increase voter turn out. Go figure.

The DNC list does NOT keep you off the Political calling groups. it's probably because you don't answer masked calls.

Yep we are registered on the do not call list and still get a flood of calls.

The DNC does not block political or businesses you have had prior dealings with from calling you. The last time I checked non-profits could call also.

Also if you give "permission" you negate the DNC. How do you give permission? Read the fine print on anything you fill out where you enter your name and phone number. It's just as bad as email spam.

Yeah I that I am aware of. For several years though Its already been illigal for sales calls to have automated machines dial your number and play back a recording to you with no human interacting even long before the do not call list existed. It is more that law than the DNCL that I would like to see extended to politicians. I really dont care if a pollster or politicians whos actuly on the other end of the line calls me but I do get frustrated with getting severalr ecordigns a day calling me every single day. I just get tired of jumpign up and running for the phone at all hours to see who is calling only to find that 90% of my calls now are recordings.

they got around that by giving you the option to speak to a live operator ("Press 9 now to speak to one of our represenatives").

as for the political calls

http://www.flsconnect.com/
republicans

http://www.tyson.org/
democrats

These two companies as of the last election produced millions of political calls a day.
