Well, you either have your own personal buisness, or are misfiling with your company, as in you are married and/or have a kid and are still being taxed on your paycheck as if you were single.

Also, I moved to different states twice during the year, so those get factored in. In addition, for the 2nd move I was given a $19,000+ moving 'allowance' that counted as regular pay, where the government was kind enough to take $7,000, so it was nice to get most of that back.
My gross income was $51,000 (not bad for being unemployed for 3 months after getting out of the military), but after H&R Block doing the number crunching only $19,000 was considered taxable income.
Trust me, the $12,500 return isn't fun money. I have to pay off some considerable debt accrued during my unemployment.

I like getting a bigger return. The difference per paycheck isn't that big, so getting a chunk of money every spring was always nice.Only reason I know that was why you got such a refund is because my first tqax return after Wook Child was born (last year) was huge, and it was because I was still filed as single under my employer and was taxed inappropriately. Since I fixed the issue I get more money per paycheck but a much smaller tax return.
