Looking for a 3d design/art program...

I'm looking for a program that I can make cool pictures (like on www.digitalblasphemy.com) and share them for free and/or sell them. That means they don't have a license that requires me to do something that screws up my pictures like putting a huge-ass logo of their company over it etc.

Preferrably it would be a free program, or an affordable one (on my college budget I wouldn't dare spend over $100.00) that still turns out great looking renders/pictures/products (if you know what you're doing - if there's lots of tutorials or lessons online for it, even better).

I have no idea if any of you know about this stuff I know that I don't. If you do, please fill me in. Awesome.

read through this thread

although it's about fanfilms, there is still a list of software and how to get it. They use the kind of things you're looking for.

Thanks. They listed a couple good ones there, but none of the screenshots from them met my expectations (typically sites about 3d tools display a gallery to show what their program is capable of). Of course, who knows what one can do with enough determination using either of the two tools I think look best, so I might try one.

Still, if anyone one else has recommendations, don't be afraid to speak up. Awesome. ;)

From what I've read on those forums, most people that are really good use a number of programs, because no one program does everything exactly the way they'd like. So it's a lot of doing certain operations on one program and exporting them over to another program, and then importing them back, etc.
In the end my advice would be to find some forums that are specific to what you're looking for, because even though you might get recommendations for programs here, eventually you'll come across situations we won't be able to help you with.

Well, I haven't tried this yet, but I feel pretty confident about it...

Thanks to WikiPedia for that find. Now if I can manage to download it over this unreliable wireless connection... with *free* download manager. Man, I sure love free stuff... LOL

Edit: Check out this render from their gallery, LOL:

long link I know, in any case, they got alot of great examples for it, so gotta try this...

Downloaded it, trying it, and so far happy with it. Haven't done anything special but make a rounded cube from a tutorial, LOL. I'll probably post some stuff when I get better at it in the graphics forum.

First render. No textures or special anything, just the model:

Nice box, eh? LOL

Blender is cool to use, it has alot of features, but that is also the down side. Its very complicated too, and it sometimes has trouble with Ati cards.
