Internet Explorer Can Go To Hell

OK, for the past week or so I've been working hardcore on my new personal website, and so far it has been going smoothly. After about 3 months of trying to figure out how to customize my site via ExpressionEngine (owned by pMachine), I finally abandoned it and decided to go with WordPress (virtually identical engine and operation, but it isn't solely tag based like EE, making it comprehendable).

I converted all my old site news AND my entire LiveJournal WITH the comments, as well as integrated my Gallery in it with ease. Found a theme that had a layout I was looking for and for the past 3 days I've been customizing the layout to fit my tastes.

Anyway, I use Firefox, so everything was working great, no issues at all with viewing my site. I was too lazy to log out and test the anonymous user commenting, so I opened IE to do it through there (no IE cookie). I go to my site and what do i see? The entire site is fucked up! The banner logo has some bullshit grey background, the menu styles are wrong, and it the backgrounds for each post are deformed and off in shape and size. I quickly run to the W3C website to check what on earth I had fucked up. And to my surprise, i get the green "your page is valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional" confirmation. Maybe it is my stylesheet? No, that comes out as valid CSS as well!

So now I'm stuck. I have no fucking clue what to do, cause everything works according to the laws of the internet, yet Internet Explorer is a piece of shit that doesn't like to read VALID websites. Now I have to go out of my way to discover some sort of "IE hack" to put in my CSS file, so that when the page loads in IE, it will make the site look how it is supposed to. A painful and lengthy extra step cause the retards at Microsoft don't know how to code. Use Firefox

Welcome to the world of crosschecks lol... i know what you talk about and always hated that myself.
Seriously this issue fucked me up so many times... that i gave up coding in general afew years ago.. that is just killing my nerves the whole debugging stuff.
Have you tried Netscape too ? Since Mac Users love Netscape :P
 
Well, aren't netscape and firefox pretty much running on similar platforms? After all, they all are predecessors of the same product. I dunno, I don't have netscape, but I'll check it just in case.

Ohh i am not sure about firefox.. really not much into that business anymore.. firefox came later kinda and i never tried it.. since ... i am lazy like zampy too :P
 
hehe, the history of netscape, mozilla, and firefox is really screwed up. They all started from one company, Netscape. Mozilla was a project started and funded by netscape. Pretty much all it did was make Netscape open source. However, Mozilla and netscape still co-existed, even though Netscape 6 and 7 were Mozilla based. And to further complicate things, Mozilla spawned Firefox, which technically was an open source of the open source, funded by Netscape (now owned by AOL). So all 3 browsers coexisted on the market. And as of last year, Netscape 8 became Firefox based.

So technically, you have 3 different browsers that all are based off each other. Netscape should just chose to fund ONE project. Axe two of the three to secure a better portion of the market.

Hmm why ? My secondary browser i use is Opera... and i am using that one like 3 years or something ...and my OS runs almost 2 years without any problems.. the few sites i surf too never make problems with my IE.
And i dont like installing new tools that much.. too old to figure out all the clicky clicky features ... and i live the motto... never touch a running system

True... Although, I never did like opera, with all the ads and all it slowed my machine so much. And Internet ssearches were kinda slow. That's why I'm encouranging Firefox... No more sluggishness :D

And thanks Stav for the detailed browser history ... didnt really follow that stuff anymore... sounds pretty silly all ... no wait.. it sounds typical for internet stuff lol
 
BTW, remember SOE's case of vocal minority for the NGE? Well, it applies here, but this isn't bullshit. In all of 2006 up until now 80.8% of this site's visitors use IE, and only 16.5% use Firefox. Netscape comes in third with 1.3%.

oh, and btw, congrats to tutok. He was the highest searched member that was linked to this site, at a total of 2 searches :D

that's because i do a search for myself to see if anyone has flamed me lately :P

p.s. FSU uses firefox at their libraries.
