Graphic art, game making, and animation...

Curse

Bored to death... maybe...
Well I was talking to Tiv yesterday via Xfire and we were discussing graphic art. I told her that one of my hobbies is making my own games. Well I used to play around with a program called Game Maker. It's a really neat program and I understand it a bit, but I need some ideas and opinions on what programs to use. Normally I'd mess around and make a game with game maker when I had an idea but lately I can't think because I dunno I'm really stupid lately. :P Anyway which program should I use to make the games sprites? (I can't draw but I'll try my best.) What kind of game should I make and what will the game be about? (I can only make 2D games... like SNES games kinda) Anyway I need input here! :)

Go buy C++ for Dummies and start there
[/b]
Actually, when I started out, I pulled out the old commodore 64 and lots and lots of documentation and learned basic. Its amazing how flexible that little language actually can be. Go to a flea market, or auctionhouse or somewere, pick up a working Commodore, and have a damn fun time, its educational too, or so they say. C++ is not for the faint of heart.

I always enjoyed Turtle

well gamemaker is basically like a dummies guide to game building hell you can make a game without writing any code at all.... how I'm going to make the game isn't really what I'm looking for I need ideas on what kind of game to make... gimmie a story or something... should it be RPG a side scroller a puzzle game? :P

Actually, i'm currently working with a friend of mine who is a graphics artist (he did the concept art for the Def Jam 2006 basketball game, and impressed EA so much they have him as a contract worker as an Art Director) and we are in the process of designing two games. One we currently just pitched to a Company out of Japan. The company reps really liked it, we just have to convince the company to invest in it. Its gonna bea FPS/RPG for PS3 or XBox. The main character you play is Lucifer :). The second is an MMORPG that i'm currently writing. He is currently drawing the concept art for our design pitch. All i can say about the MMO so far is that it will be taking place in a futuristic earth similar to the earth we see in Blade Runner.

Now, by all means, i'm not saying these will be developed. The first one has a medium chance of being developed. The second one, we'll see.

Sounds friggen cool wish I could do shit like that.....
Anyway which program should I use to make my sprites? (I tried animation shop it seems good enough but it's kind of annoying)

hehe, we're just two creative minds that work together. You can see his work at http://www.creatorx.com. What we lack is programming skills. We have great ideas, its finding out if they are possible that poses a problem. Thats why we're keeping our eyes open for an experienced video game programmer to join our team

holy shit , dude your friend is extremely talented that art is NASTY... did he go to an art school or something? just WOW ....

You know you need an experienced Voice of Reason with fish-like tendencies. Preferably blue, with yellow-green markings. Headgear optional. I happen to know one that's available to fill such a position when either of those productions get off the ground. Completely useless when it comes to code, but he can write lengthy rants, and.. uh.. documentation, if pressed to appear useful. :D

he self taught himself as an airbrush artist in Greece. And he expanded his knowledge from there. He now does web design and small business IT services as well. His house is a diginatl multimedia center, with a 15 computer network, all connected to his TV and sound system. He has one main TV, and two TV's that branch off the original, yet from a single line, he can watch multiple channels on all TVs. he's crazy. He also found a way to digitally rip an HD signal from the cable cord and directly record the feed onto his computer. He has 3 movies in HD on one of his comps, all over 10GB big. BluRay DVDs aren't even out yet, so he just stores them on hard drives lol. Anyway, yeah, all his stuff comes from his twisted mind. And he used to be a chronic alcoholic in Greece.
