Damn You Microsoft!

Vista doesn't come with an uninstall feature, and for some reason my harddrive doesn't want to shrink so I can partition a part of it to dual boot XP. I hate computers.

Boot it up in dos mode with a boot cd and then use FDISK to delete the partitions and create the new ones that you want. Afterwards you have to format the partitions. Also make sure you have a newer FDISK that supports the huge size of the hard drive and can make partitions into the NTFS format. bootdisk.com should have the files for the boot cd.

Vista doesn't sit on DOS. If it's like XP, when you install it gives you the option to partition the disk.

That's what I did last time I formated... if not... well I dunno. :p

Load Frick-Disk 2000 (tm) and screw up the disk, then format, whoo!

I have never used Vista. Don't think I ever want to from what I hear.

Sounds like Mac actually has a chance to shine, if they say... release a kickass OS for OS 11 or something...

Aye and neither does windows XP but you can still use a boot disk to get into dos mode and fix the harddrive that way. That's the only way I know.

Not an expert, but if you go to your HD manufacturer's web page, you may be able to download files that will let you make a boot disk with formatting utilities on it. Start your comp with the disk inside and reformat. The utility may also help with partitions.

Many hard drives come with this software on CD.

Good luck.

I just went through and reformatted (From Vista Ultimate) and installed XP in one fell swoop. No hitches whatsoever.

Dunno what's wrong with your stuff. I just booted from the disk in to that quasi-dos installer that comes on the XP disk.

Alright, now the problems come out of the woodwork.

After doing a reformat and installing drivers, the computer stalls at the XP splash screen. It only happens after I install the Nvidia graphics driver.

Astalavista baby !! lmao... Service Pack 1 will be released in November then it should be ok to install it... other then that Curse is right.. with fdisk you can kill the MBR of your harddisk and after that you should be able to install XP but when i read Sovis posts i have the feeling that using the XP bootinstaller shouldnt make any problems too... just make sure you boot from CD in your bios settings

sovi, when you reformatted did it wipe the HDD clean or did it set up a folder with your documents to keep?

just adds to the reason to stick to XP pro. Really theres is no good reason to go with Vista. Only one genuine reason to get it, is if you've already got the very top of the line pc, and there is something only vista currently supports/makes the most of.
