China: Valid ID's required to play online games.

In short, you need a valid ID to play an online game for more than 3 hours a day.

Internet game operators in China must deter young people from playing online more than three hours a day to combat what the government regards as online addiction, according to a circular issued by eight government departments, including the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Security. Game companies must develop a system that cancels half a minor’s earned gaming credits if he remains online for more than three hours a day. If the young person plays for more than five hours a day, all of that player’s credits will be taken away. Online gamers will also be required to register using their real names and identity card numbers, which will indicate if they are under the age of 18. Companies must develop an anti-addiction system by June 15, fully test it by July 15 and implement it thereafter, according to the circular.

Voyage Century required you input some kind of ID in order to create an account. It didn't check the ID though (I put in just a gobblygook of numbers as I'm not sure I'd give many gaming companies my SSN or Liscense info) - they were made in China. Maybe they had wind of this, or maybe it was expected.

Fascinating...but then again, I am looking at it from a giant, government run, online ID database as opposed to a gaming thing.
