To everyone not in the USA

Gomi

The Dirty Smuggler/Agent
what kind of credit cards are offered where you live?
Visa?
Mastercard?
Discover?
American Express?

Thanks

In order of popularity and acceptability in stores;

Best:

Visa, Mastercard, Solo, Switch.

Last two on your list, Discovery and American Express, not really over here, but proberly work.

yeah what lethos said. However, some shops sometimes ask if im using american express like im carrying aids or something and then breathe a sigh of relief when i say no.

American Express charges insane fees to shops that aren't in the US. A long time ago when I was in Europe, I got told in many places, they'd let me use the AE card, but only if I purchased like $15 or more or something.

Yes IIA took up a collection for you so now you can be the woman we all knew you were.

Client is about to launch his site in the uk and wants to know what credit cards to let people use.

well yes then Gomi, the 4 I said, are quiet the standard to be used online in the UK. I also doubt be much different elsewere in europe.

Well actually it's quiet standard that you'll get a small charge if you don't spend over £10 if you use a cash card in a store. Admitly not sure if that applies to credit cards, since few times I've reserved that for emergencies, and lets just say It was easily over 10...

Most of your charges will still come down to currency differences, when abroad, so when possible search around for the best offer for currency exchange, either through the bank, or like the local post office, and pay cash.

At my busines we work with visa mastercard and we do not take american express since its ridiculous what they charge

Well, it was quite a bit ago, and it was in France that I needed to actually use the card. (was definately a credit card) - I didn't get charged, just the restaurant I was going to.

Mind you, this same restaurant gave me a beer when I asked them for a menu. (and beer and menu in french are about the same as beer and menu in english. I wasn't popular for being an american. Never mind a fat american. I only stayed in Paris for a few days before I moved on).

Not sure how there was that misunderstanding between beer, and menu, they sound nothing alike in french, or pseudo french-english.
More like it was the normal complimentary drink, they like their beer and wine.

sorry to go off topic Gomi.

No, I got charged for the beer, and then got a funny look when I again asked for a menu.

It's not the card that's important, it's whether or not it's on the right network.

My Visa worked everywhere from Spain to Egypt.

Ok so to sum it up Visa and Mastercard are ok, Amex and Discover are out, and Timi is a trannie.
